as above anyone got any recomendations for size and style of anchor for a 23ft cuddy, spent over an hour today trying to get one them folding ones to hold in the end gave up so time for new one

Mainly depends on what gear you have on the bow. If any. It's no good getting a particular anchor of it dont fit and is a pain to use. Nearly any anchor works fine most of the time.. Not many of us are looking for an anchor that will hold in a gale in 20 metres of water.

First thing is plenty of chain. Best all chain. Nearly anything on the end of that will stop you. Course, if sea bed is just flat rock, nothing will stop you. The rest is just a compromise.

Whats the set up you have at the moment. Whats the sea bed like. A 56lb wieght works well in some places.

at the moment its just one them 4 folding prong anchors was told that it was ok for a 20ft boat in most weathers as got it with one my previous boats, my 23fter just dragged it along, the boat has clips at the top of the locker for a danforth style anchor are these anygood?. the use im wanting it for isnt for rough weather the bed today was just sand other boats where sitting steady at anchor how much chain would be recomended?

Umm. Chain depends on where you want to anchor. All chain. Three times is minimum. The danforth would be fine.

So. First important thing is chain, three times depth, maybe more. To much talk about anchors to make sence of. I like my Plough. But maybe a bit combersum for you.

Are you using mainly rope or chain???

6 kg Delta with a decent amount of chain30m of 6mm will do

If soft mud/sandy bottom
