the only thing Lorne sausage needs is brown sauce and a roll

The only thing Lorne sausage needs is a dustbin. Mechanically-recovered, bright prink gristle with added fat. Disgusting (IMHO)!

Minced ears and nipples anyone..? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

the "Wham's Dram" perhaps? Whatever you bring, make sure none of it is orally donated to Puilladhobrain next morning. We don't like spew in our pishpools.

Ah, well now..

I'm a quality man at heart although budgetary considerations frequently hold sway but dinna fash yersel' laddie, it's Carnegie Hall when guests are aboard.

As far as quantity is concerned though, I am of course genetically programmed for substance abuse being 50% Scots, 25% Irish and 25% Viking.

PS - The new cooker arrived today.

Ah,a sailor after me verry oown heaaart.

Having been introduced to the veritable delights of Polands finest(?) export several years ago, imagine my delight when a 'Strain dingho wrestler, invited to imbibe, dashed down the road to reappear swifty with some fine and cloudy apple juice-joy oh joy, followed some hours later by wow oh wow.

I expect that the Scottish service crew will at this very moment be marinading liberaly the apple pie in earnest preparation of a fine weekend

......cumbernauld actually.....

[/ QUOTE ]

When I was a wee boy living near there, half-a-century ago, the Barr's Irn Bru was manufactured in Milngavie ( try saying that, if you cam frae' Kelvinsaid... ) and Cumbernauld was still a smudged aberration on a Brutalist Architect's sketch pad.

The trams ran to just past the old Atmospheric Railway shed, as I recall, and I used to walk out past the Allender Burn to Craigallion Loch - if I have the spelling right.

I've not been near there in decades, and imagine it's wall-to-wall Barratt's houses now, all the way to Drymen Square.

I pronounce it as "Miln guy".

But going back the original posters question. What would I take to Scotland?

Answer.

Why would I want to go there in the first place?

Where is it anyway ~ is it north of Watford Gap?

If it is, then it's "off my radar"

I thought all the Scots were to be found in Westminster.

Full combat gear + a flak jacket.

The only good things to come out of Scotland and I mean THE ONLY GOOD THINGS are single malts and a good links golf course ~ the rest you can easily forget.

Peter.

Last time Silkie was on my boat he brought a bottle of 75% proof rum that had been on special offer in his local co-op.

I remember that stuff - but not very well . . .

Wattayottie, Theboatman and Botheras:
Like effing piranhas by nature and mentality!
One takes a wee nip and the others start to get brave, exited and have a go.
When does it turn into a mindless frenzy with blood and bits of Scotsman floating about in the water- or have you already started?

[ QUOTE ]
Do Scotsmen float?

I feel an experiment coming on. I wonder if Wee Gordie Broon is available.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe you are thinking of witches here.
(Cue Monty Python & the Holy Grail - "Yes, but what also floats............ Errr - a duck?")

[/ QUOTE ]That's not the half of it. If not actually running the whole show (which many do), you'll find them holding top jobs in the City, the banks, insurance companies, civil service, armed forces, trades unions, NGOs, the media, just about every UK based multinational (and a fair few US ones as well these days), art and cultural activities etc etc etc. I don't see it's a problem; after all, someone's got to do it. Commitment to civil society, public service etc - it's just part of the ethos.

[ QUOTE ]

No - they're just megalomaniac control freaks.

I sense jealousy here.....

sorry to burst baith o' yer bubbles, but ra Irn-Bru, or as it wis first kent, Iron Brew, was akshully first brewed(sic) in Parkheid. Started by A.G. Barr in 1898, although the family goes back to it's roots in Falkirk wi Robert Barr and then his son, also Robert, started a soft drinks company in Gallowgate in 1892.
'Ra Bru' wis first introduced in Parkheid in 1901.

Can't remember when they moved to Cumberauld but I think must have been around 1991.

Incidentally us locals generally pronounced Milngavie, as Mulguy.
