Has a thermostatically controlled oven that gets hot enough to do Yorkshire puds? The current Plastimo Neptune is hopless.

Plastimo oven

Replace the sealing strip round the oven, with a proper one on all 4 sides.

Buy one of the general purpose ones, it'll cost 50% of the Calor/Plastimo price and transform the oven.

That's what I've done to mine - you still need to have the yorkshire pud on the top rack position though.

Force 10 Cookers

I have a Force 10 which came with the boat and it is a very good cooker with a thermostatic controlled oven. Before this boat it was all Plastimo cookers.

My model: Force 10 North American Standard - 63451 - Marine Boat Calor Gas Cooker - 4 burner, grill & oven

Charles_Reed's proposal sounds a lot cheaper.

The range is at the Calor shop www.calormarineshop.co.uk

Buy Aunt Bessies puds, just need to warm them up. I can't make good puds. (full stop). Number 1`can make good puds at any time. Perhaps its just you. With sympathy.

I have a force 10 4 burner. To be honest I have found the grill dissapointing, and the oven is not thermostatic. Do I have an old model?

SMEV are good, but their temperature scale is not quite the same as a standard Regulo. They'll certainly do Yorkshire puddings, though.

My bigger complaint is the spacing between the shelves. There are only two positions; neither the gap between them nor the gap between the top shelf and the top of the oven them is big enough for a reasonable roast joint, so you end up with only one usable shelf and then where can you put the veg and the Yorkshires?

Don't know about your model but the flame lowers on mine as it gets hotter and the temperature stays constant. Yes the grill is not as good as the rest of the cooker wrt cooking. Only a 2 slice toast capability. The spacing in the oven between the shelfs is limited as well but better than most.

Our Nelson Spinflo is pretty good on temperature control, but I have to say our culinary efforts afloat are not all that ambitious and we have yet to tackle a full monty roast with Yorkshire. However on past performance I would expect a good result -- provided the wife did the preparation -- that said I can do a very acceptable toad in the hole at home.
Just had a thought. If the BBC are looking to pep up Masterchef, why don't they try a an on board culinary challenge. Creating fancy food in a Force 6 would be very watchable!

Nelson Spinflo

Nelson Spinflo here too, full roasts on Sundays, baking, stews.. in fact we cook as at home without issue at all. Well, I do cook, but er outdoors bakes.

Not the cheapest, but they work, look good and most of all, made in Britain.
