I'm just about to order an ensign for Miss Moneypenny - but I have no idea what size would look right. She's a 28ft, I don't want to look like I'm sailing with a bedsheet trailing behind.
Whatever size you go for I'd strongly suggest stitched not printed, and don't leave it flying for 5 weeks solid in strong winds then complain it's getting frayed !![]()

According to the RYA advice, a one yard ensign. Something like this?:

NO No No ! Not unless you hate your boat; 1 yard fine, but stitched not cheap & nasty printed, it's a sign of the way the owner treats and thinks of the boat, I suppose a bit like in Nelsons' day the Captains would pay for gold leaf on the stern out of their own money...![]()
That is a sewn one "PLASTIMO RED ENSIGN FLAG SEWN 1 YARD. BOAT MARINE"
That one in the pic is doing a remarkably good impression of a printed ensign, so it would be a case of checking if text or pic are correct...
The picture further down in the listing shows this:

So I think the first image is a stock photo - we'll see when it arrives!
Is that a quarter ensign then ?
"Pick a size that almost touches the water. "
I'd like to think that's why the wife picked me.
From another point of view,I have a little yacht but it was made in England like me and has nothing to prove. What is the smallest red duster I could legally use abroad? (sewn of course) I don't want needless windage to please any jobsworths or closet BNP members. Is there a minimum?Cheers Jerry.
