I'm just about to order an ensign for Miss Moneypenny - but I have no idea what size would look right. She's a 28ft, I don't want to look like I'm sailing with a bedsheet trailing behind.

The bigger the better, on ebay 8' x 5' for a tenner. Think of it as collision avoidance and the reflected red glow will give the vague impression of sunshine. Any minute now though, someone will post saying there's an accepted formula for length of boat vs ensign size

Whatever size you go for I'd strongly suggest stitched not printed, and don't leave it flying for 5 weeks solid in strong winds then complain it's getting frayed ! :)

Nobody would do that ... would they ? :D

NO No No ! Not unless you hate your boat; 1 yard fine, but stitched not cheap & nasty printed, it's a sign of the way the owner treats and thinks of the boat, I suppose a bit like in Nelsons' day the Captains would pay for gold leaf on the stern out of their own money... :)

That is a sewn one "PLASTIMO RED ENSIGN FLAG SEWN 1 YARD. BOAT MARINE"

AIUI, standard UK sizing recommendation is 1" of fly per 1' of boat.

The Dutch and the Danes go bigger - I think it looks good. Few things worse than a tiny ensign taped half-heartedly to the backstay. Wear it big and wear it proud.

That one in the pic is doing a remarkably good impression of a printed ensign, so it would be a case of checking if text or pic are correct...

The picture further down in the listing shows this:

So I think the first image is a stock photo - we'll see when it arrives!

From another point of view,I have a little yacht but it was made in England like me and has nothing to prove. What is the smallest red duster I could legally use abroad? (sewn of course) I don't want needless windage to please any jobsworths or closet BNP members. Is there a minimum?Cheers Jerry.
