What sealant will stick to a plastic chopping board?!

I’ve used a chopping board to divide up one of my lockers because it was white and kind of matches the GRP.

I want to tidy it up and run sealant around the edge, problem is I’m not sure what will stick to it. Tried CT-1 and Silicone so far… neither stick.

Any idea what I can use?

If it's a polyethylene board (dense, heavy and slightly greasy feeling) then nothing will stick - it's chosen for this very reason.

Cheap boards are nylon which isn't very much better - you need solvent based glue, which isn't really the thing for what you want to do.

The problem is prep. The surface MUST be sanded, and preferably flame treated (denatured). Not easy if it is installed.

The second solution is not to sweat the small stuff.

You might be better off gluing some strips of wood to the hull/locker fronts that will the retain the ex chopping board in position. The wood can be glued in with thickened epoxy and later painted of required. Strips of 10mm square section hardwood or MP might just be enough to do what you need it to do.

Or you could tab it in with glassfibre and polyester (or epoxy, if you like that sort of thing) resin, like a wee bulkhead, which it sort of is. Probably locate ok without actually sticking, but you could improve keying by drilling holes in the perimeter.

But if you are going to go to all that hassle you might as well just switch to something like white acrylic which will be much easier to actually fix

Drill and small brackets would be secure. I can't think of anything that will stick to it reliably. My own solution would be to 3D print some runners for it to slide into.

I don't know your particular board and this will perhaps not help this particular end-on arrangement but to overcome this bonding issue when adding fixing ears of such 'chopping board' to my horizontal solar panel without drilling same I have used Sikaflex 291i adhered well to the back of the semi flexible panel and a pattern of c/sk holes in the chopping board tabs.So effectively making a durable mechanical connection.
Depending on use of this locker a small well made fillet on each side of the divider would do this ,it doesn't need to adhere to the plastic.

Ah. Wish I’d made it out of wood now 🤣

It just needs an extra little fixing but I thought some sealant would kill two birds - hide the join and hold it in, it’s only a small divider. I’ll glue a wooden block in to screw the board to and not worry about the edges I think 👍

Or see if I can find the glue gun.

BUT then that wasnt the question...

PLUS I'd have thought thats no more hassle than epoxying in bits of wood, using wee brackets, etc which didnt catch any flack.

I don't know if this is available in the UK, but Locktite PL S30 or S40 (just different colors) are stronger with PE than Sika or 3M products (testing for an article and personal experiences). I even repaired a PE fish pond (laminated patch) with it ~ 15 years ago. Still holding water.

I’ve found extruded aluminium angle strip to be useful in such instances. It’s cheap, readily available and resistant to corroding in a marine environment.
The aluminium can be bonded to GRP, wood or metal using epoxy resin or a sealant to form a supportive frame. It is then a simple matter to secure the plastic board using self tapping screw or alternatively threading the aluminium to take set screws.
