What reply would you give?

I don;t think there is anyone in a position to allow names or not, is there? Does the no-two-vessels-with-the-same-name rule for proper registered ships (which gave us TS Queen Mary II on the Clyde) apply to SSR yachts?

You can call your boat whatever you like .... but when you go for SSR / Pt 1 or VHF Ship Station licence - if the boat name is offensive, liable to cause offense or confusion - you will be asked to reconsider it and authorities have option to refuse acceptance of the name.

The no 2 vsls rule only applies within the same Official registry. SSR - has no rule at all about multiple same name ...

There's somone in the SOlent called "Don't Panic" and they had a fire in the engine room.

Solent CG were great, but when they signed off after saying a lifeboat was on it's way they just couldn't resist. Can't blame them.

Met up with a boat called "Fat Bottom Lady" the other day and were asked to moor alongside, couldn't face calling to her crew by boat name and it was "er, excuse me, er, yes, you, HM has told us to come alongside you". Wife of skipper said boat came with that name and she now refused to call CG or marinas. Strangely, encountered "Fat bottom girl" a week or two later, can see it now, "Darling, I've named my boat afte you" -- smack.
