What make of chisels

[ QUOTE ]
I've got Zim's working for me who can take a piece of raw timber and produce some wonderful work, and they can't afford expensive chisels. Some have been made from worn out files with hand made ebony handles. Doesn't matter how costly your tools are, it's more the craftsman

But can they make chisels out of "Water Bar"
its all down to the quality of the steel

The point is that scrap steel of the right grade will make a good chisel, it's not limited to expensive chisels. In this day and age, if you specify a steel for a job, you will get what you order. The way you process the steel is the reason for the differences. The hardening process is the limiting factor and how well it has been carried out. Too soft, large grained, it won't take an edge. Too hard and it won't stand impact and will chip.
