<<<Always prefered the denture cleaning tablets >>>

Yes they do work well - and to make the cleaning chore easier we just give our mugs turns at soaking the dentures each night.

Half a teaspoon of washing powder, put in all the stained teaspoons and top up with boiling water. Leave overnight.

If denture cleaning stuff works, why does'nt toothpaste? In fact should we gargle with denture cleaning fluid for that bright shiny smile?

as I understand it steradent is just a mild bleach anyway, so if you did'nt need to clean your cups you could just bung yer wally's in the bog overnight with some bleach and also do two jobs (jobs as in operations rather than bodily functions)?

Works everytime! Scotchbrite pad works aswell! But tea cups need a good coating of tanin in them, adds to the flavour! I knew that Jimi was a wimp! I bet he washes the teapot aswell, sacrilage!

Easy one. It's called Elbow Grease- if you wash up properly with a slightly scratchy faced sponge instead of just swilling them round with a brush you never get a tannin build up.

Part of any good recipe is the cleaning up factor. No point in having a lovely meal if it takes you 3 days to clear up after it. I find the CIF very useful on the worktops to wash up and a good bit of cocentrated Fairy liquid helps the onions thtrough the plughole.

De toothpaste et Jif

Now that we're really getting into the nitty gritty of sailing, I thought I'd put it my penny's worth. Firstly, a word on Cif. Now that we're all global and love each other, Johnson (or whoever) must have decided in their infinite marketing wisdom to use the same name for a product in all lands blessed with this cleaning agent, But lo, a problem: here in Italy, the 'J' is a 'y' sound (as in 'yot'). Now, would you buy a cleaner called 'Yif'? Of course not. Hence Cif. It's all the fault of the Brits if we can't tell an 's' from a 'k' just by looking at it. So please be sure to tell your friendly supermarket stacker that the proper pronunciation is 'chiff'.
Re toothpaste: SWMBO uses it to polish the family silver 'cos it's cheaper than the proper stuff. Works a treat and smells nice too!

Well as a poor impoverished student we have various (cheap) methods of getting over this problem. Firstly make the tea much weaker, one bag does at least 4 mugs, then it's dried out for later use in emergencies. Also use more milk.

However we have done laboratory tests and the best solution is caustic soda, followed closely by letting mugs go mouldy, the mould effectively lives on the stains, then scrape em out and Bob's your uncle.

If for any reason none of the above work, then go around the flat and nick someone elses.

Forgot to mention, the cheapest and most effective way to clean these stains away is to pee in the cups and leave overnight, the natural acids in urine work a treat.

But don't forget to rinse the cups well!!

Never clean your teacup or mug. If you do, some unscrupulous shipmate will nick it and use it. If you don't then, if the teabags unexpectedly run out, you can obtain up to 3 cups of (slightly weak) tea by pouring in vigorously boiling water and redissolving the precious residue.
I used to use proper tea, like at home, instead of teabags until a particularly lively channel crossing redecorated the inside of the cabin and most of the cockpit, crew included. Real tea may taste better but teabags have the added advantage of leaving a thicker and more durable residue.

I thought that the last brew was rather weak. Was only just warm. However I drank it just the same. My God you tea tastes and looks like p***.

Re: marketing news

Nah you don't need to do that unless you want to market yourself a new country where Jimi is a rude word.

Re: De toothpaste et Jif

Yif sounds as daft as cif to me. It was called jif as it cleaned in a jiffy I thought. The others make no sense at all.

Re: marketing news

Ah thocht it was here, If I said to the Queen "I'm just off for a Cimi" that would be acceptable as she would think I was just off to grab a bit of Italy for her. On the Other hand if I said "I'm just off for a Jimi" she might be less inclined to grant me my well deserved knighthood!

I am told by SWMBO that even better than Steradent (especially if you still have your own teeth) is "Buster TSR" which is available in supermarkets or mail order from Chalis International Ltd on 0870 603 0420.

I would like to emphasise I have absolutely no connection with this company whatsoever but am simply told the stuff works.
