What is you sailing ambition?

Next year getting away from the Solent ( its been great but after 7 years knocking about most places from Scilly to Rye I feel the need to push on) and a season on the E Coast then overwinter in the NE. Then a continuous slow potter around Scotland and back to the NW. Cannot wait!

An extended "boys only" summer cruise, with my son (before he gets sidetracked into more teenagery things) and my father (while he is still fit enough). Either round Britain or a voyage to the Baltic and back.

But that's for the future. Right now , my main ambition is to get the boat out of the shed!

After almost six weeks on the hard replacing all the broken bits that needed replacing and fixing my ambitions now is to get back into the water and see if any of the sea cocks I replace leaks .
Then to get another few months sailing before finding a spot to hind out for the rest of the winter .

Back to Ireland next year, leave her there for the winter and then perhaps to Northern Spain the following year.

After that, just to keep on using and living on the boat for as long as our minds and bodies hold up..................................

Oscar Wilde said that ambition is the last refuge of the failure.

I can understand a person with ill health dreaming of an unobtainable ambition, but for a healthy person??? Stop dreaming, sailing is not rocket science. Start today even if its putting some pennies to one side. In a few years you will be back home and wondering why it took you so long.

Seriously, treating a life-long desire as an ambition is just a delaying tactic. What I mean to say is that your ambition starts now. Go for it.

Our desire/ambition was to travel so we just kept saying when we don't like it we will stop.......Mindelo Cap Verdes on rout to Barbados neither of us understand why we are here but ...the world is looking smaller already ...one foot in front of the other......

As sailors we all have dreams and aspirations some of which we will do and some we will never do.
It may be to take a boat out on your own, to live aboard full time or to sail around the world.
What is your sailing ambition?

Hello Cygnus III, good to see you back.

Curious to know what prompted the question...
What's your sailing ambition?

My sailing ambition is to upgrade my boat to something faster. (though the one I have is ok)
modify it so that it can be sailed and raced with a mixed shorthanded crew of able and disabled people
run skippered holidays or sailing adventures
sail solo across the atlantic (ostar)
sail solo nonstop around the UK
maybe try to get invited to do some double handed bigger races...
promote sailing (competitive and cruising) and boat ownership to women
and hopefully carry on writing about it and entertaining people along the way.

To get round the mull of Galloway and back to Maryport without ****ing it up :)
Well i failed in that, after over a 1000 miles, most singkehanded, and only 3 days from home; my rudder got bent and the outboard bracket got torn off in heavy seas between mueller and corsewall points, and I was towed ignomiously back to stranraer by the rnli rib :(
The guys were great and i'm very appreciative, but bugger!
