What is this?

It's your negative bus bar.

Connects together the -ve returns from various circuits and then runs them as one larger wire back to the power source.

Since this is a negative bus bar, then there must be a positive bus bar somewhere, right?

If I want to add some equipment or a new LED reading light, I don't need to wire all the way to battery but just connect to the +/- bus bars instead, right?

By the way, the bus bar in my photo seems to be full, is there any way to "expend" it if I want
to add new equipment?

Ou can use the top bar by having the wire coming fro me above and use same pins,put label on wires so you know later in time what they are.
