What is the truck version of a KAD 43?

[ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's SWMBO who is a die hard fan. Deal when I bought boat number one was she got to name it . She came up with Whitelighter, and I really like it - so we have taken it with us across three boats now.

They do say it's unlucky to rename a boat, are you feeling lucky? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Generally all engine blocks are bought in from various sources. Volsputter have developed the leasure engine, favoured in most boats, it's light and over powered which suits the market. The market requiring a boat capable of more and more speed. This requires engines weighing less and less, yet producing more HP.

Longlivity is not required as this will only become apparent by the second or third purchaser. When Volsplutter claw back even more profit from the unfortunate punter.

To a certain extent, Volsplutter used the same method of sales on truck engines, made them very popular with drivers, as they would over rev till distruction.

The other confusion Volsplutter use, is to constantly change part numbers, so cross references to standard parts like filters, become difficult or imposible, forcing folk tp buy

( Genuine Volsplutter parts)

But then they were never Volsplutter parts in the first place. Just things bolted on and bought in from the specialists.

A big part of why Volsplutter have gained so much hold over the boat industry, is many other manufacturers would not stoop to there depths and veiw there quality of product to highly.

Was told a little while back, but can't remember who said it, that the 31/32 series block whilst not seen in cars is seen in tractors under a different name /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Alot of their engines are also sold as industrial engines, for generators, tracters etc.

I think the 31 series block might b called the TD 31 in their industrial engine range? All marketed under the volvo penta name still.

Its not the blocks that worry me, its all the bits Volvo stick around it and bits they modify for more power that are made to a price. KAD43/44 all have dodgey valve trains which will self destruct if not reguarly adjusted, pipes, pumps, electronics, sensors etc... all unique to the leisure marine market and relatively unproven in the long term. If I had a choice I'd buy Yanmar, unfortunately Volvo virtualy have a monopoly and we don't.

The KAD43 valve train is a bog standard 12 valve head.

It's the KAD44 and KAD300 that have the trick 24-valve head with those strange Y-pieces that cause something very nasty if you don't adjust them.

Exactly, so I'd rather have a good old perkins 6litre produce my 260+hp then, i'm no luddite and I'd acknowledge Volvos certainly perform but they are engineered to a price.
