Oh and don't forget the Mediterranean does have a tide, been caught on that one!
Me too. Went up on the flood to Aquileia in northern Italy, moored up with plenty of depth under the keel, went for lunch in the town and came back to this. You can see the tidal range on the wall.

Had to wait for high tide the next day (the next semi-diurnal was not enough) and used plenty of revs to bump my way into deeper water. Phew!

also, not to forget the atmospheric pressure factor :D
we passed several times in the strait south of Katina island (Kornati), the one with the two white beacons, usually having no more than 10cm clearance under the keel, until one day when "bump crash", have they moved the rocks?
Realised later that pressure was at a highest, like 1030 or 1040 :)
