You could be on to something there - not only would it keep the weed and barnacles at bay but perhaps we'd be able to bounce over the shallow bits

It could be the same cook at his next port of call in Rotterdam.

It is not an uncommon solution to cooling hot bikes. A story that a few years ago they drained one of the ring canals in Delft and found five thousand bikes probably has some element of truth in it.
