I probably should have explained my situation better, I am based inland but go to sea for 2-3 weeks cruising every second year. Otherwise I spend every weekend onboard and 2-4 weeks.What you need is a change of lifestyle mate

Our part one refurb will start soon, been pulling (unbolting) the seats etc from the cabin to get them recovered, a new matrass for the pointy end of the boat too.Part 3 of our refurb this winter so a bit of a list and all a tad pricey!
A new VHF and handheld is on the cards plus a redesign of the instrument cluster and new cleats as the wooden ones are beyond saving - ie. there is no wood left in them

Sounds like a good project
We have done a lot already and this is the latest development - engines out for some TLC and a tidy up and some work in the engine bay.

A bit different than mine...
The Volvo Penta is sitting behind the wooden wall, it's a MD7A with S drive to a 3 bladed propellor, part of next year's work is to replace the engine mounts and impeller, the water pump has a small weep and the alternator needs a new pully, it's 40+ years old and worn out

Oh wow! Big work going on? What’s the issue with your engines? Is it just TLC or bigger work? Will be a great opportunity to do impellers and any other tricky jobs. What hours are on your M265Ti’s? Mine are around 1300 but the hour clocks recently stopped working. Apparently the gear cogs in the Tacho’s can be replaced.

Generally TLC, addressing oil leaks (they are Perkins) and some necessary and some preventative maintenance as well as some changes in the engine bay. Our engine bay is quite tight so removing the engines makes it all so much easier and it isn’t really a big deal - a fairly straightforward operation on the Hardy and would be on the Broom as they too installed hatches in the right places. The key issue is finding somewhere with the right facilities.
Our engines also have around 1500 hours and hour meters can be a bit flaky but it is the displays that are dodgy (they are digital).

Took advantage of the Black Friday sales with full approval of the pusser, and ordered an early Chrissy Pressie, a Standard Horizon HX890E handheld, now we should be able to get past the lock gates on the canal, Channel 0 here I come...

Yes, we had an issue with contaminated fuel this season and had the fuel polished. We have one inspection hatch in each tank and despite them being 22 years old they were fairly clean - no layer of black sludge on the bottom but some bits of black stuff folding around and a bit of staining on the tank walls.
My original thoughts were to pull the tanks out and to install hatches and have a proper clean but now I have been able to have a proper look I am not so sure. Access to any hatches would be nigh on impossible when the boat is back together and it would introduce a risk of leaks that would be very difficult if not impossible to resolve unless the engines came out again.
Given the fairly good state of the tanks inside I am now thinking instead that installation of a water/sludge removal system might be the way to go. The Marine 16 diesel dipper is a consideration but they are very expensive for what they are so I may cobble together my own system using filters with water separators such as the Racor 500.

I thought that these (one or the other, not both), were the d’facto reciprocal xmas present for such a gift as a full size car by one’s children these days. Wherever did you go wrong i wonder…….?
