What is it with sailing and customer service

On Friday two boatyards promised to phone me back today. Neither has. Bah.

Don't worry - You are not alone! Been trying to get my standing rigging changed but riggers won't get back to me. Suppose it means there is just too much business out there (or alternatively they are all lazy b@*!ards).

I had some riggers go up my mast and do a thorough check last November. Still not had their invoice yet! Funny way to run a business!

It's not just boatyards. I need some work doing on my roof. First guy I called said I'll have a look on Friday. Never showed. I called back and he said yes I'll come and have a look. Never did. I then called another roofing guy who lives in the same very small village as me. He came and had a look, gave me a quote which I accepted and then said he'd be back the week after next. The week after next came and went and he didn't. I called back only to be told yes I'll do it Friday or maybe Saturday morning. Guess what - he never turned up. How can I get someone to actually come and mend my roof?

Maybe try the West Country. This winter no-one has not called back and more than once people have rung to say we could do this or do that for you if you'd like. The guy who's been fitting a new radio was at the boat show in January and took me round a number of stands to look at options. No regrets at all at leaving the Solent last year.

I have had an unfortunate experience with a marine company over the last week. I got no response from them until I threatened to post the facts of my complaint on this forum today. 5 minutes later I had an offer for compensation. Worked wonders...

So laid back without a care in the world. No pressure, just do the job when it feels right to do it, but no rush, just take it easy.

I've been trying to get my chair at my computer re-upholstered for a while as it's getting, ahem, rather worn. One woman did come and look but never called as she said she would.
