I need an impeller puller for the raw water pump on my Volvo Penta MD2003. It is well and truly stuck. I can see plenty of pullers for sale but don’t want to buy one the wrong size. Don’t worry, it has all the vanes attached until I pulled one off.

Ok, so I went back and used was a little less gentle with it using my universal adjuster and that got it out in two halves.
Thanks.

I have same problem. Last boat with same impeller just pulled out without a problem. I tried tugging with pliers
with this engine a no go. Am worried about the 'two screwdriver' method as it may damage the pump faces?
Btw, chris-s what is a universal adjuster? Mole grips, adjustable spanner?
Maybe dose with WD40 ahead of attempt? Can anything be broken by using too much pulling force?

Local DIY shops usually have universal pullers of various sizes that can pull quite a number of items .. and definitely a lot less than 80 quid !!

Of course there's always the 'rope trick' ... if you can get two loops of rope behind .... stick a rod in the other end of loops and then lever using the ropes going behind as the 'puller'

One universal adjuster.

With a large screwdriver I split the impeller in the shaft slot, bit like a nut splitter. Then I was able to pry it out.

The two-screwdriver trick didn’t work. I too was worried about damaging the pump housing by levering against it but used a bit of rubber from the hoses I had just replaced between the two..

I made an impeller puller, bought a pair of cheap long nose pliers, heated the ends and bent them inwards just enough so you can grip the centre boss and pull. Works very well, 6 vane impeller like yours, but didn't work on a friends 50hp Volvo Penta as the boss was too large. I do have good access to the pump unlike my friends
