Having decided to go east through the Corinth canal to get away from the Ionian swarm of sails, only to find a swarm of breeze. We got a battering in the Patras gulf of 40kts plus and a futher battering (highest recorded was 55kts) in the Corinth gulf. Having been made to wait in 45kts for the canal to open for 2 hours was no joke.

But what a sail with only a handkerchief of a foresail, speeds up to 8.5kts finally ending up in Ermioni.

The trouble and strife has had enough and has ordered me to head back to Corinth (she is even paying the toll) to hopefully pick up some friends in Preveza 2 weeks before schedule.

Best sailing in years but SWMBO is not impressed.

A squall of 60kts in Levkas yesterday, torrential rain (horizontal) and a truly awesome thunderstorm ... maybe you are coming the wrong way. :)

Here in Didim marina Turkey we've had at least five days of high winds, not as high as Viv has experienced but still unpleasant.
After my wife returned home on May 28 I've been working on the boat safely tied up to our berth in the marina but it's been far from pleasant. Speaking to a few British and German boats who have arrived in the last few days they've had a pretty torrid time getting here from the south. Today (Monday) has been the first calm day and even this afternoon I could hear thunder over the mountains.

Very unsettled weather and no end in sight. Pity the Charter boat punters. They must look forward to a weeks Greek sailing experience, so must be terribly disappointed.

Have just returned home after 6weeks in Greece & turkey. Definitely very poor weather,a complete contrast o the same period last year. Normally we are swimming off the stern most mornings, but not this time.
10 days ago we saw on TV ,flooding in Ankera and mega hailstones in Istanbul. Hope things improve soon.

Its building to be an El Nino year PLUS the jet stream is all messed up. Weather much better here (Fethiye) than the UK but not a normal weather pattern by any stretch of the imagination. Forecasts are at best vague indicators, when usually they are pretty good. I find that adding 10 knots to predicted wind speeds renders them fairly good, but last week in Kas the prediction was 25Kts we reckoned it would be 35Kts we got 50! (from 180 deg the "wrong" direction) and it rained but it was warm rain. Strange that it didn't rain in February when usually it pours and the scared start building Arks. Its becoming a difficult year proving too hard to call weather wise.
