Before - brands such as KEMO via such as Maplins had various amp rated split charge regulators. Solid State so virtually no voltage drop ....

Useful for caravans / boats etc. Basically connect a dumb battery charger or 15V regulated source and the unit would monitor two Lead Acids and charge as needed ...

I have one on Superanne ... looks after twin battery setup.

I was trying find another to use on Anisette - my other boat.

But all 'Unavailable' with no date expected to restock.

Are they really no longer used ??

I have one of those on my boat

M174 Solar charging regulator Dual 16 A

KEMO still have them on their web site Try their German office

Solar based is not what I'm after actually .... I will be using a bog standard car battery charger and the 15v minimum needed is problem. If I could hit that figure or higher - I have controllers ..

I need the split solid state that works from car chargers ...

This is the one I am trying to find :

2 Way Split Charge Relay Charging Module - 6, 12 & 24 Volts

That is exactly the same one and its the same as I use to keep my engine start battery topped up from a 50 watt solar panel.

I do have an add on regulator for my non auto battery chargers but I also have mains smart 6A battery chargers to keep the batteries topped up. I had 8 smart chargers for my cars but also use then for my boats sholly replacing with solar 30 watt

We do have a local electronics shop that say they have the same one in stock but not gon their yet

It would be better IMHO to use separate smart chargers for the engine and house banks.

If there's any so-called 'smart' element to the charging, how with this filter inter-act with how the charger senses the charge state of the batteries, and what voltages would you want if the two banks are at different states of charge?

For not much more money, you can get small maintenance chargers which should look after the engine battery over winter. But personally, I don't have great trust in leaving any of these systems without looking at them for weeks on end.

For years I trusted such solid state relays in caravans and on boats .. Yes I was a caravan person (UK Wifes choice !) ...

They are specifically designed for exactly this purpose to monitor / split the charge ... when battery is full - it reduces to minimum trickle - while maintaining other battery charge rate till it as well reached full. ....

If either or both batterys drop back - it restarts charge as required.

I have a whole bunch of smart chargers .. and they are great as long as you only want to charge up one time. Majority of Smarts then default OFF and never restart when battery charge reduces. That's why Carver and all the system based battery RV setups use regulated PSU's via similar solid state split relays.

Is this a good idea to fit these as I just turn the controller to charge a different battery, having batter one and two. If I want to charge both I turn the controller to both. I think I can see an advantage to a split charge controller now i think about it.

You have mains powered charger going into same 1-0-2-B switch that Alternator is ?

My 25 with such switch - has splitter independent of that switch .... as it monitors battery's and charges whichever requires.

My 38 has relay controlled alternator charge of domestics and each bank as own isolator switch. The splitter again would not be via this as it would lose its main function ... it will be independent so that unit monitors each battery and charges as required.

The charge source is a 10A dumb car battery charger. A smart charger fails to work with these splitters as the splitters electronics fools the smart charger and it does not start charging.

The whole point is to have a charge system completely independent of the boats systems.
