Don't want to confuse the other thread on cookers without gas and there are clearly opinions about gas - and that is what I want.
Currently have a Plastimo Neptune 4500 which is a poor imitation of a cooker.
I installed a Nelson Spinflo in my last boat and was very pleased with it except the grill. Unfortunately I've heard stories they have reduced the parts quality now.
What do you recommend? We will be living aboard in the Med for the next few years so will cook quite a lot out of season at least. Boat is a Moody 44 with a standard sized space for a cooker like the Plastimo or a Spinflo. Width will be the key factor as there's plenty of height and depth. I've heard good things about Eno and Force 10, and of course GN Espace. Tending towards a Force 10 with 3 burners on top and grill in the oven space.
Anybody care to comment? I'm open to all suggestions.

If I were you, I would go Force10. You are going to make good use of it. The GM are ott with regards to price

We had a Taylors 043 on our previous boat and an 041 on the boat we bought this year. Spares for these quality gas cookers are now getting problematic but David Stopard at Marine Systems Engineering in Southampton will re-furbish these cookers completely. The work includes replacing the burners with modern ones, replacing the electronic ignition with a more modern system and generally restoring the cooker to 'as new' (or better, the original didn't have electronic ignition on the oven). We have had the 041 refurbished and are delighted. It gives us a great quality cooker that will last for years at a fraction of the cost of a GN cooker - plus we don't have to mess around altering the galley/gimbals to change accommodate a change of cooker. The cost would buy a cheap cooker undoubtedly, but how long would it last?

So, as an alternative suggestion, it might be worth trying to find an 041 or 043 (depending on your size requirements) and giving it 'the treatment'.

The Force 10 and the Taylors 043 are the top 2 cookers IMHO.
The force 10 is tops for oven and hobs, but is let down by the grill.
The Taylors 043 has a much better grill.

We have similar plans to you (and on a 44 - Sunbeam) and thought in the long run a quality stove would save money as it really wasn't much fun doing anything challenging on the old one and eating out was always the preferred choice. Gulped hard and got a 4 burner GN Ocean Chef - great bit of kit - takes proper pans and you can use the oven just like the one at home. Well insulated too, so should not be such a space heater when using in hotter climes - but that won't be tested until this May.

My Force 10 4 burner has been in daily use for 10 years. I gave up trying to keep the self igniters working and use a barbecue igniter. The top burners and oven are excellent. The grill is poor.

I have just had a major service done that included replacing the top 4 burners. This was necessary because the flame failure device on the large burner had failed. The burners had to be replaced as the tiny screws which hold them together break off.

Cosmetically the stove still looks good and with the rebuild should be good for anther 10 years.

I would buy another Force 10.

Why would you buy another if the grill is poor?
I seem to remember a recent review by the excellent Ben Meakins in the magazine but it may be less 'recent' than I think. But may be worth looking up.

The GN cookers are expensive, but they are well built, the support from the GN team is great - very hands on and great customer service. They are very efficient cookers - they use a lot less gas to do a lot more cooking. They are also "proper" cookers, as has been said above you can cook proper meals, roasts etc, make bread and pizza. And the grill makes excellent toast/cheese on toast & bacon.

My boat came with a Force 10, 3 burner oven and grill, top quality.
Although I replaced it with a proper Taylor's paraffin, it was so well made that a Force 10 would be first choice for a gas cooker.
