I am sailing from Ipswich to Southampton in March. Is there any point in trailing a line to catch fish. I have never fished before. What would the minimum requirements be?

Thanks

By trailing a line, you are only going to catch Mackerel which, despite being the easiest fish to catch, is very tasty but not one you would want to eat everyday.

All you need is a line with hooks garlanded with feathers and a weight to stop the lures skipping on the surface. You can buy them online or in any good angling store.

March is very early for the mackerel season, but you should catch some eventually.

How to catch mackerel

I would also like to give you a masterclass in catching bass.....but I am crap at it, apparently.

There's loads of stuff out there! The site shown is great.

Remember though,

Have a look at a paravane.

If you tow lures etc as you sail along it will rise up and generally not work properly. a paravane uses the motion through the water to take the line down and to one side.

I get mine from ebay.

Cheers
