/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif All sounds absolutely ghastly. Dont like the look or sound of any of this. I really dont get this dog thing. Picking turds up and cocked dog legs is stuff of nightmares. Surely wont sleep for the next week or so. Looks like single handed sailing for the foreseeable future.

I think really you have gone round in a circle to the start of your first post - "I hate dogs". If you aren't a dog person, don't put yourself (or the dog) through it and I mean that kindly. Liking dogs isn't compulsory and it isn't something that should be taken on under pressure - you are signing yourself up for 10+ years. Personally I wouldn't be without one or two, but I accept that it isn't for everyone.

The green eyed devil dog wearing a lifejacket is sickening. I will have to fight back to avoid such a possibility. Its a major sales and marketing campaign, sweets, playstation and bribery to any lengths to bring them around to the best idea posted so far........ Yep.... big cat sounds a great idea.

I would look at one of these:

poodle-std-300x260-tig-128.gif

It will look rather splendid on your bow and will bring many admiring looks from other boaters.

Of course, you could go for a black one,

as they are probably easier to keep clean.

They also come with integral lifejackets.

I do hope you don't get a dog , no offense , but you obviously don't like dogs and the result would be yet another unwanted dog stuck with an unloving owner , and that is never a good idea . Stick to what you do like , although I dread to think what that might be

Well your thread has really created interest.
Shows what the peeps think about pets!
Soft gits we are for sure!
Don,t BUY ONE, there must be lots that need homes.
Dog's Homes, adverts etc etc.
Anyway for what it is worth.
Was given a Black Lab/ Collie cross as a Kid.
As ? can,t remember, previous poster, said, sorry mate, too early to concentrate.
Said good animal and bloody intelligent (compared to some peeps I have met!)and good company.
Someone mentioned a Newfie! Flippen heck, Me brother had one out in Canada.
Water? couldn,t get the bugger away from it, the Dog I mean.
The only water Brother wanted was in His Whiskey!
Crikey! what Dogs they are, big soft daft buggers that just want to swim, fun animals though.
No.1 Son brought a Heinz 57 Home 16 years ago.
He was 10 at the time.(Son I mean)
"Get rid of it" says I.
"Dad they were going to chuck it in The Menai Straits" says He.
"Rollocks" says I. "Well it,s up to you to look after it" says I .
Cor blimey the "thing " lived for another 15 Years.
When it snuffed it, there was much tears and stuff going on!
Wouldn,t buy one.
Somebody wants rid somewhere.
The ones that just turn up are the best.
Bit like SWMBO, fancied Her Sister really! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Get a Dogamaran. They are twice as stable as a fast monocat! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Alternatively Cavalier King Charles are very neat and tidy on a boat. They are equiped with an automatic cleaning agent and don't yap like some terriers. These two have cruised the Atlantic SW coast of Ireland regularly on our mono hulled semi-planing cruiser. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Yes it's a Broom, but we're young and don't even wear slippers never mind smoke a pipe /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Doggies on route for last 'walkie' before OF spends night on the anchor.

My experience of dogs;

Border Collie –
incredibly intelligent dogs who are extremely obedient and loyal. Pedigree Collie’s can be so inbred that they end up quite jittery so don’t get too high a breeding (ours came from neighbours and was excellent). Excellent with kids. Used to go fishing down the bottom of some cliffs when younger and left dog up the top. Was always there when I returned with a look of “I have been waiting here all the time” whilst covered in grass, bush material, and knackered!!

Labrador –
Not so intelligent dogs but extremely loyal and friendly. Excellent with kids but does eat everything in sight. Have one at the mo and love him to bit’s – a real family dog. If buying from a breeder opt for one of the smallest from the litter as some can become HUGE – I walk with another in my local park and he is twice the size!!
