What do you use as an eberspacher fuel tank

We are finally getting round to fitting the eberspacher next week and realised we haven't got anything to use for a fuel tank. It's a DC1 so consumption isn't high and space is limited, what do you use?

Thanks for your help.

Main fuel tank. Consumption of diesel is so low from the Eber that it makes little impact.

Main fuel tank.. but considering seperate tank to run of white diesel... there's a chap on ebay that makes tanks to your own dimensions. but i guess any fabricator could knock a tank up.

We didn't use the main fuel tank as it was an extra hassle to get the feed out of it and didn't want to T off the engine feed - not that that would've been much easier.
There was redundant space in the boxed off area with the hot water cylinder, which was also conveniently close to the Eber installation. iirc 2L would provide 24hrs running at full power ...
the only hassle is going to be re-filling the container, but as it is removable I can refill where it is easiest! Oh, and I can have a second tank already full waiting to pop into it's place ...

10 gal steel jerry can. You need a take-off point and vent and should include a diesel on/off tap in case of fire. Fix the can in place and fill it from a portable one (with due acknowlegment to John Arrowsmith who fitted this out in my previous boat).

I use an old seagull outboard fuel tank mouted near to heater unit

Beat me to post ! Any small tank from Lawn-mower ... outboard ... etc. will do the job.

Actually not hard at all - just take it from one of the outlets on the primary fuel filter if you have one. Also has the plus that you're getting semi-filtered diesel.

Obviously no help if you have a petrol engine though!

Yes ... we have ... 1 .... outlet that is ... and it was a lot further to the primary fuel filter than the main tank to start with! We'll see how we get on with such a measly tank, if we're refilling too often then we'll either put in a larger tank (could fit 4L in there if we find/make the right container) or take a feed back to the main tank (not too much further, but a pain either way...

Filled with parafin as it gives a much cleaner burn.

Ah the joys of working out the optimum placing of the Eber and routing all the various pipes and wires! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And then wishing you had done it differently!

In hind sight I would have mounted mine in the most accessable place rather than tucking it in a nice out of the way location. I would also use constant fresh air and not recycle.

One day I'll be changing my install.

I was rather hoping that I would never, ever have to access mine again. That, or I get so rich that I could pay someone else to suffer...

I guess that using fresh air you're driving out damp air laden with condensation, so should get a much drier environment? I'd also be worried about fumes getting into the cycle somehow, but not sure to what extent that's a risk?

All IMO of course but recycled air will build up moisture and any thing else!

Also if you are going to recycle the air and have the eber with the reostat controller, make sure you have the intake and output well apart, or you'll find the thermostat on the intake starts cutting in before the boat is warmed up. So better still fit the external room type stat. I have one and it's also on my to do list.

Now the reason i'd like to have better access to mine is that it cuts out some times and the fault reading module (I have one if anyone wants to borrow it) tells me it's the main body thermostat that has detected an over heat.

I can solve the problem if I open the hatch on the locker where it is so it could be a number of things... poorly insulated pipe work... too many bends in the output hose. But easy access would help me sort it.
