I asked the marina if I could have the boat connected to the mains, I thought I'd put a dehumidifier in the cabin, they quoted me £2.75 a day plus vat, so with the vat a 100 quid a month!!!

The same company has another boat yard on the river, 2 years ago it was £140 a month for the boat storage and electric.

It seemed a bit steep. What do you pay?

Methinks you're gettin' a shaftin' me old china!! Even in Barcelona it's only 20 squids a month.

£5 per month service charge + electric at cost price. Marina's are not allowed to charge you more for the electric than they pay for it, hence at chichester we pay a £5 service charge regardless of how much electric we use, even if we use none.

but...but...but...(bottom lip wobbles).....

You pay that do you? I've only got a battery charger and a want a de-humidifier, I'v not got 8 fan heaters and two dehumidifiers and a coffee machine.

Perhaps......what I need is about 1/2 mile of lead.....up Yorke Way, through the footpath, into Hamble Lane, past the grotty social club, past the White Hart, through the car park in the square, along Satchell Lane, down the hill, across the MDL car park, down the ramp and into the boat!!

Re: Huh!

I've only got a blimmin dehum as well, and seeing as how i'm on dry land, it hardly ever kicks in! AND my electric comes from the box on shore, not the incredibly expensive dockside supply. AND you want to use the lecky full tilt cos of course your boat is soaking wet with ancient wood hull and sopping wet cushions which would probly be better off staying wet, really, like the Mary Rose.

So, i reckon it should be half price on shore, and not the same price as on the quayside.

However, I can tell you that going raving bonkers doesn't work.

Re: Huh!

If you are in PS, as a premier marina I think you'll find they charge you the cost price for electic on the pontoons. Some EU thing that came in last year means they can't add to incoming cost But they can charge for the service. At Chi I think we pay less for a unit than we do at home. Chi charge 4.5p per unit inc vat, our home domestic is nearer 6.0p per unit plus vat

£60 per annum standing charge plus annual bill - probably about £100 to £150 as normal. We only plug in now during winter so expect less than £100 actual leccie.

45 pounds a month to Power gen includes the house gas and electric and the boat with the heater running at night on economy seven !

Tom

If I was in a marina I would get the genni to come on when power drops ! You would soon get the electricty for free by the yard?

Re: Huh!

You're right about Port Solent, they charge electricity per-unit at cost. Comes out at far less that a tenner a month to run a tube heater...

A serviced berth is £26/mtr/annum more expensive then it's £100(refundable) for the meter and £30/quarter for the service plus electric at cost???????
I'm going to look into this, that works out at £370 for a serviced berth extra and Im still paying for the battery charger /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
You shouldnt have asked this question..............................
