Sitting here onboard in Ouddorp listening to the rain sheeting down, having read all the books, manuals, bbc news.........
Wondered what others did on those grotty days whilst aboard on holiday.

A bit further North than you Javelin, in Hoorn on the Markemeer. The weather here has been rubbish, not just rain but cold as well. Walked into town to get some provisions and extended our stay by a day as tomorrow promises to be better and there is a festival on here. The town is like a huge fun fair and yesterday there were literally thousands in the streets with some truly scary rides....

I spent the afternoon trying to get the internet to work with a VPN so that I could listen to the Cricket and the Oympics. The Beeb are so anally retentive with rights restrictions ......

The steam tram museum is worth a visit, but not open everyday. Amateurish and better for it. There is a horse bus service into the supermarket but I couldn't find where it started. The bar / yacht club is good.
we usually spend rainy days tracing deck leaks.

Repair something. Varnish something. Do a bit of re-wiring ( I removed several feet of wires recently that were not connected to anything!). Sort out the accumulated rubbish in the lockers. Tidy the chart locker. Sleep. Drink. Cook. Eat.

These seem to be regular jobs on my boat. Years ago I would have included love-making too :(. And smoking :disgust:.

Last time it rained I changed the engine oil.

You must have had frequent oil changes this year :)

Ah, the cricket! There is nothing more soothing when standing a lone watch in cold, wet, lumpy weather, than a commentary from the Caribbean.

I am not a cricket fan. But I do love Hoorn :)

I sailed to Ireland with a mate in 2008, and we got storm bound at anchor in Crookhaven, where the dinghy filled up with 12" of water from the rain. The way we enjoyed this was just to slow the day down. So cup of tea when we got up, over which we planned breakfast. We really savoured breakfast, digested it and about an hour later did the washing up. That set the tone, do everything deliberately and slowly. It is one of the periods of time on a boat that I look back on and remember for being so relaxing. If you're working in a job with any sort of pressure, savour the time to unwind
