Now let me see if I’ve got it right

Figureheads are frogs
Frogs can drive boats
Frogs are women in disguise

It should therefore follow that women and figureheads can drive boats.

Question

Why do they put them at the opposite end of the boat to the steering wheel?

Well keeping it brief, in the days of the froggie figureheads the figurehead carried a telescope and kept a lookout for dangers that the ship might run into (you will see in the picture the telescope in the froggy's hands) - note it was much safer at sea then because no women drivers either. But when they swapped to the woman figureheads they had forgotten about the telescope bit and there was a short period of panic as to what would happen when a ship ran into something that had not been seen.

ANYWAY, the inevitable happened and a ship plowed straight into some Scottish cliffs but the ship just bounced off! So everyone relaxed again, but the event spawned the term still used today of "Hard Headed Woman" about which we still sing.

Probably everyone knows the Cat Stevens "Hard Headed Woman" {I am going to get me a Hard Headed Woman and take her for my wife, etc etc} which just goes to show how inexperienced the Cat was then - I like the Elvis "Hard Headed Woman" song best, not so well known, but here is a reminder - first verse

"Well a hard headed woman,
A soft hearted man
Been the cause of trouble
Ever since the world began.
Oh yeah, ever since the world began
A hard headed woman been
A thorn in the side of man."

So there you go, all of these seemingly trivial things have an interesting story behind them if you seek it out.

There is a whole other story about how the woman figureheads couldn't see where the boat was going so thats when we got crow's nests, and radar but that is a whole another story which would be off fred.

Normal proceedure. Always send in a scout first. If they get shot or blown up, run away.

:O))
