I've done the ofcom bit and printed out my handful of pages that lists my vhf bits on the front and then seems a general splurge ofter that. Do I no longer need any little tax disc thingy to put in the window? Just to keep the papers on board.

Why bother? Cos there have been many documented accounts here over the years of inspectors descending on marinas and boaty locations to run checks.

Why bother you might ask...........

[/ QUOTE ] Why bother to obey any laws. Just pay the fine if you are caught.

Need to ask again, while the subject is open.
I got the sais bunch of papers through the post, but am a little uncertain as to whether I am supposed to activate the licence by comtacting them in some way?
The jargon doesent make it very clear what to do.
Can anyone clarify this for me please? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks Stork_III. VicS, I dident apply by computer but by phone and was first sent out a disc type prior to last Dec, then about 4 wks ago I got the letter in post with l/l licence.
So I take it I dont do nothing now?

Think this is my 1000th post?

[/ QUOTE ] Congrats on your 1000th post. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Its the idiots with several thousand posts to their names that i cant understand. How can they churn out so much claptrap. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

No need to do anything other than update them with any changes of address, phone number etc

[/ QUOTE ] and any cahnges in equipment carried. Also the periodic revalidation (10yrs ? for a licence for a fixed set, longer for a "T" licence). That is automatic of course if you make any changes otherwise register to use the on-line system log on to that and you will find a "Validate" button to click.

When I go to the site and click on new user the boxes change to a darker blue and won't let me enter anything

[/ QUOTE ] ????? Assuminng you are trying to register as a new user go to This page of the Ofcom site read all the bumph then click on the first link: ofcom.org.uk/licensing/olc and click on "Register or login to the Ofcom Licensing Service" then scrolldown and click on "New individual registration"

That should bring up the form on which you fill in your details (note that the password must contain uppercase, lower case and numerals) Dont forget your password! Your user Id will be sent through the post. It took about 2 weeks at one time but I believe it is quicker now.

Once you have yor user ID you can log in at the logon page, access any existing life time licence that has already been issued or apply for a new licence.

If you are applying for a new licence then note the difficulties and the solution that you will encounter when attempting to download it if using IE7 (Alternatively lower your internet security temporarily and return it to normal after downloading)

I scanned the relevant section of page 1 and 2 ... reduced to half A4 size and laminated it back to back.

I also printed a disc of my own with relevant details on to put in the holder in the window !! to save some bod asking me to dig out all the bumph ...

Unofficial solutions of course ...

My interesting bit is that I have a licence e-mailed to me and also posted - with no login details at all ... so I am interested to consider whether to login ? or just leave it all alone !!

I have just changed the boat name, and have amended it on the online thingy. done it now twice over the last 2 weeks - names does not change though - I clicked everything from validate to save to entereing my password - and for some reason they want a name added at the end (my name or what?) - they already got that!

Very Very poor website design!
