hi im looking for a new dinghy
i would like to sail it single handed for fun and also double handed at times , it has to have a bit of speed and a thrill but i need to take my kids out on calm days . anyone have any ideas as to which boat would be suiatble ive thought of a 420 but not sure if i can sail it single handed or if i could launch it myself
thanks

I bought SWMBO an RS Feva this summer & it's proved a great success. We have 2 kids of 8 & 11. One adult can take both kids. 2 adults is cramped but OK. Single handed is no problem at all since the jib isn't required to keep the rig up as in many 2-sailed dinghies. Ballance without is fine. The jib is v small anyway. Pop the asymetric kite out for fun. It's not fiber-glass so almost bullet proof. Only down side IMO is that they hold their price very well. So, you won't find one in the £100s.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have problems either launching or sailing a 420 on your own.

You might have difficulty getting a handicap for racing it singlehanded though?
And if you do get interested in racing, there does not seem to be much activity apart from junior female olympic hopefuls. Not round here anyway. Things vary around the country to be fair.

The OP would be well advised to go visit some local clubs, see what people sail locally, he might even get a sail on a dinghy. A 'wanted ad' on the noticeboard might be amusing too.
