What deck shoes (also Sebago quality, oh dear...)

I'm with you on this one Pauline, anything above freezing on the boat and my shoes are off, as for the needle threat, in the grand scheme of things I don't think it is such a huge risk, anyways a hypodermic needle would make short work of popping through the sole or the nice squishy leather on the sides of deck shoes.

As others have said though, I have had a few pairs of Timberlands and can vouch for them being good.

just ordered a new pair of Chatham Deck shoes on line for hlb for xmas, despite the posting and packaging payment, & quite a bit cheaper than at the local
"swindlers" at £46 inc. Not £60.

Could only get brown colour in the type he likes, but will end up fag ash coloured anyway as per his deck shoe picture. Have been excellent deck shores have to say. No noticeably unpleasant pongs from them so far have wafted my way, despite them being attached almost permenantly to hlb's feet since last xmas.
But then it would have to get through his fag ash aroma

Sorry mate, but its not just the syringes, its the bits of glass, metal etc, etc, UK marinas might be pristine, (not that I noticed, however) but not those abroad, believe me, my crew had badly lacerated his feet twice! before I brought in the shoes ashore rule. Same goes for some beaches, although most are safe. Just experience talking, thats all.

Stopped buying Sebagos since I got a new pair wet and they leaked brown dye over the saloon carpet. FWIW, I've been buying deck shoes from M & S recently at 1/3 price of Sebagos and they last just as long

Agree, Sperry Topsiders.

Last better, softer leather and no pong with unsoxed feet!

Mine last years and years - wash em in FW if you get them immersed in salt water, or worst still MUD!

Bought my M&S deckies 3 years ago, now looking nicely worn in but still in good condition - I think they were £35. Comfy and odour free - rarely wear socks with them and soles are excellent for grip and not picking up grit & stones

Don't believe that in this day and age that cost and name = better quality.

I think it is necessary to have several pairs. One for exclusive use on deck. Two for walking around the marina and three for going ashore.

Bought some Marks & Spencers ones this evening, thanks chaps!

Not as nice as Sebego used to be, but probably nicer that they are now, and about a 1/3 of the cost!

Plus I read somewhere that before long red diesel will be phased out and the price of Sebago shoes will plummet to about 50p so I figure I can buy some then and save a fortune.

So thanks again to all of you for the good advice (or at least thanks to those of you with your opteions set to "date slip", since no one else will see it unless they page back a couple of pages...)
