Need one as a back up for the summer trip, but my budget is small. how much would i need to spend, to get something 1/2 decent, and any suggestions on what ones?
thanks
as a backup I am using the sat nav with the paper charts. I have scanned in a few charts as well but this is more of an experiment than a replacement for the main unit. Also not water proof and much shorter battery life.

OK link takes you to his Glabal Map unit ... ignore that - go to his listing at side or his shop and look at handhelds .. that's a mono hand-held plotter iFinder ...
If that's not suitable - then it's the good old faithful Garmin eTrex ... basic but works.

etrex with charts is all you need, imho all you need as a back up is some thing that will give you long and let, the etrex is the best i think for that.
