what cheap hand held GPS, any suggestions?

as a backup I am using the sat nav with the paper charts. I have scanned in a few charts as well but this is more of an experiment than a replacement for the main unit. Also not water proof and much shorter battery life.

There's a guy with Ebay shop who sells Lowrance gear ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lowrance-Head-Unit...1742.m153.l1262

OK link takes you to his Glabal Map unit ... ignore that - go to his listing at side or his shop and look at handhelds .. that's a mono hand-held plotter iFinder ...

If that's not suitable - then it's the good old faithful Garmin eTrex ... basic but works.

I've got a GPS map 60 as my main unit. Its fine and I can transfers waypoints and routes into it from my laptop running maptech charts.

I'm thinking about the raymarine handheld as a possible upgrade. If you have an iphone you could consider the navionics app for £30.

etrex with charts is all you need, imho all you need as a back up is some thing that will give you long and let, the etrex is the best i think for that.
