Yes I know, totally pointless, and I seem to recall there are some on here who find comparing boats to cars not the done thing, but, just for a bit of fun, what car is your boat?

I have a 1991 Parker 31 - I reckon it’s an 8v Golf GTI of the same era. Nippy (but no racer), practical and well built.

My Bavaria 33 is my C Max. Boat being replaced by a Golden Hind which is closer to my Morgan, although the comparison because of its space and wood trim is often said to be a nautical Morris Minor Traveller.

series 2 landrover - itchen Ferry 22

Ferrari Testrossa - Regal 1950 LSC

And like a ferrari and old landrover neither can do what the other does, but between them they cover all bases. There is always a day when one is ideal.

The Itchen is built like a tank, slow but has a feeling of comfort (unlike the landy) weight and space. Its been done up the way i want it and is a keeper, i should have kept my old series 2a. Not the most pleasing to the eye, but more than makes up for it on practicality.

The Regal is fast and pleasing to the eye, way ahead of its time and still keeps up with anything in the Marina. Perhaps a little impractical but i like it, and i think its a keeper as well. More pleasing to the eye than the newest models as well, like the Ferrari.

My current boat, and my current car, subjectively, share some similar charactistics.

Both are:
  • over twenty years old
  • reliable and dependable
  • comfortable
  • predictable
  • very middle of the road.
They are a Westerly Falcon and a Volvo V40 estate.

When it comes time to replace those, I know what I'm going for: they'll be much more exotic, much more sporty, much sexier.

Yes, you've got it ....... I'll get an Anderson 22 and a McLaren F1.

(edit: sorry for possible thread drift, but would the McLaren be able to tow the A22 legally and still hit 60 mph in under 10 seconds?)

Our Leader 805 reminds me of my old Triumph Stag, looks great top up or down, dynamically not brilliant but full of character, sounds pleasantley rumbly, nice bit of woodwork and more space than you would expect.

And a great boat. Pity they are not built anymore.

Hmmm. I’ve got a Stag and I love it but I don’t think that I’d want to go out sailing in the boat equivalent!!!
