What can you not live without on board?!

One of those tiny little chisels from B&Q. £0.99 at the most.

After spending 5 hours down the bilge of an old sailboat trying to get hard hose off skinfittings, worth every chuffin' penny.

Go on, ask me how my bleedin' day went? Go on, if you feel brave enough.

Try a hot air gun or hairdryer next time, takes a few minutes

I would offer the following: proper bed linen (we use Heirlooms) that is customised for your boat, real glasses, same same for crockery, aircon and heating, paddle board, mask and fins (you will catch a rope eventually) wetsuit to cover any winter swimming requirements, K2R for oil on teak it’s amazing, biodegradable cleaning products

Hmm.........it has to be Tarquins or Bombay. You also need to pay close attention to the tonic in my experience:cool:
Both are good but our current Gin of choice is ‘Silent Pool’. It’s very very pleasant and made locally to us.

I’m not sure if ‘essential’ is the right adjective but a proper pocket sprung mattress, made to measure, decent fitted sheets and quality bed linen are high on our list. Proper wine glasses and plates (nothing fancy; ours are plain white John Lewis ones) make life civilised. We don’t eat toast very often so a toaster isn’t so vital.

For the boat itself, having the tender with its outboard on davits is brilliant. Tender on chocks on the swim deck with a hydraulic passarelle is a nice option on a mobo if the mother ship isn’t big enough to have a garage.

kettle
Towel Pegs (learned the hard way)
Spare sunglasses (also learned the hard way)
Yes, pegs essential. But I suggest these, they can go around a railing and stand hurricane force winds. Available from any diy

Also a small book on knots. I know better stuff is available online but to have a small book that you can use outside in any weather and any angle is useful

Totally agree about the mattress and bedding and also real glasses and plates, it does make such a difference.

I have very fond memories of growing up in Farnham and lived in the south Farnham area for over twenty years. I was up there a few months ago and never cease to be amazed by the amount of traffic going around the Shepherd and Flock!
Sorry, slightly off piste :encouragement:

We've just got our Azimut 46 and it will be kept in Croatia and in kitting her out pretty much from scratch, we've bought a lot of the usual 'stuff' - tool boxes and tool kit, cleaning stuff, home stuff (duvets and sheets and towels etc), small hoover etc, etc, etc..... the list goes on and I feel we've spent an outrageous amount of time shopping! And we still need to find a tender....

What's your must have item on board that you couldn't live without?!

The boat is in the Med and to extend the season an electric blanket is a must :)
two reasons; it dries out any chill or dampness in the bed clothes giving them a good airing and on a cold night or morning it’s soooo snug! :)

Shore power adapters local to your needs .Don,t assume there’s a common shore standard plug ,or it’s not Sunday , bank hol or the chandlers stock them when you arrive at the first away port .

Spare keys , door and engines .
I,ll leave it up your imagination what to do with the spare door key ! :)put it where the sun doesn’t shine .

That “key “type gadget to release stiff fuel/ water deck fittings .

Diesel bug treatment prophylaxis more so in areas of questionable fuel quality where corruption is part of daily life .

All the other stuff like coffee machines , gin , etc you can temporarily survive without imho until a shop opens .

The space to stow all the things you cannot live without.:D

You will spend the next few seasons wondering why you brought those essentials in the first place and then finding those items that you hid in the odd places to give yourself some more everyday living space.

As has been said already, toaster and kettle and all is good.
