What budget VHF please?

We have a remote mic with a SH but the voice output from thr mic it is very faint. You need a cockpit speaker as well.
I moved my VHF to the ceiling (underside of the coachroof) just to one side of the companionway. Now I can hear what they are saying when I am in the cockpit and also use the mic without having to go down the steps.

My ears are barely functional but SWMBO's are super sensitive. She strains to make sense out of the mic.
I intend to fit a cockpit speaker if I can find a location far enough away from the compass. A test proved the efficacy of the idea.

You have i assume check the remote mic volume setting as both mic and main set have different volume levels settings? The RAM mic volume can be set quite high and we never have any issue with hearing it
