Have a 5hp honda outboard and i am looking for a boat that can go with it, i have a rigid raider and a shetland 535 neither of which are suitable. Heard maybe an arran 16 will take one? Any ideas are welcome.

Strange way to choose a boat - to match an engine! Typical applications for a 5hp are inflatable around 3m, displacement speed boat such as an open fishing boat up to around 4m, emergency power on a small power boat up to 6m, small sailing boat up to 6m. The last will probably be long shaft.

Forgot to explain my situation

Yes it is a strange way to choose a boat. The reason is i am 15 and dont have much money to spend. Just happen to have a 5hp which will be good because i am just learning and it will be cheap on fuel. Think i woukd be looking for fibreglass rather than an inflatable. Found this boat i could get my hands on, any good?

She looks a sturdy craft from what I can tell on the PIC, a bit of TLC and you have a nice boat, could you try her with the motor before you buy?
Good luck.

Trailer or mooring?15 and not much money, second hand SIB would be best. You can do boating on a budget but you do need a budget.

Thanks for the help guys! She looks stable and needs a few bits and bobs done to get her sea worthy. Honda outboard is standard shaft un-fortunately but i think i would cut a section out the back so should do the job! It woukd be on a mooring, is a sib like a rib? Would rather a fibreglass boat because it would last longer.

Check the height of the transom. The plate above the prop on the outboard should be in line with the bottom of the boat. Do not cut the transom down if it is too high as you will run the risk of there being too little freeboard and you may get swamped with a following sea. The height you need is approx 15" for short shaft or 20" long shaft. Boats are usually made to take one or the other.
