what bilge filter

Why so ? Is it a requirement for BSS, if so Im in for a nasty suprise next week !

Yes it is.
I've just had a BSS check along with the survey on the boat I am buying and he failed it on the oil containment from any engine leaks. So either a tray or bilge oil/water filter.
I was quoted over £120 to fit plus parts and vat but it doesn't look like its that difficult to fit so I'll have a go myself.
He also failed it on the fire extinguishers being too small.

Depending on your examiner... I simply removed the fuse from my engine room bilge pump. Voila.

I always find this bilge pump nonsense staggering - would you rather I pumped a bit of oily bilge water in the river or sink due no bilge pump and dump 40 litres of engine oil and 1100 litres of diesel in the river??

There are some seriously silly anomolies in the BSC, getting worse every year. There does not appear to be a sensible way to challenge these. I did talk to Phil ?? at the BSC when I had some problems, and he seemed a useful guy, but constrained by "The Rules".
