What area of the UK has the best wind ?

for sailing that is.

From what I have read the East Coast wins....

Generally sheltered from the worst of SW's plus best sea breezes.

According to Charles Stock, this is why Thames Barges carried on for so long.
 
How long is that piece of string you are holding, this is just about the same question! You are going to get a few answers to this one, I think the west coast of Scotland.

Plays havoc with the antifouling too. All those cider swillers in Totnes peeing in the river. Takes more than TBT to combat them...
 
Have never sailed on the west coast of jockland, but in my windsurfing days someone 'discovered' Tiree, on the west coast so to speak, as a venue for high wind and wave sailing. Apparently it is the sunniest, windiest place in Britain. Saw an article which mentioned that it only had 1 tree and that had grown between two buildings sheltered from the prevailing winds.

'Incontinent Ready' underpants ?

I know I would.

I am attempting crossing the channel to Holland this summer on my own ( she is going on the ferry).

Am thinking of attaching an automatic bilge pump to my Musto's that will interface with radar and GPS when crossing the shipping lanes !

Why not tuck in behind HER ferry and get HER to lob you a towline, tie the tiller off amidships and keep your weight at the back of the boat, sit back and enjoy the crossing

Brilliant idea j !

SHE is up for it and we are currently working out how to smuggle 150 metres of warp aboard the ferry.

p.s. Still waiting for that long term wind forecast. Wondering if it's worth polishing up me bloopers for this season.

First rule of sailing - Always have a reason for not going somewhere.

Second rule of sailing - Always have a good reason for going sailing. Mobile phones have been great. Not for using them, but for accidentally leaving them on the boat.
