What are your Cruising Plans This Summer?

Grimsby and back to Burnham for our 2 weeks, paying attention to the Wash.
Autumn cruise will be Medway and Leigh.

No Ostend, no foreign planned at all in fact.

Lots of creeking this year - we have sorely missed that last year and 2007.

We ended up in Morlaix by accident of weather a while back and loved it, so for summer hols I fancy doing a lads delivery trip down to Brittany, and then a family holiday cruise back to where ever we end up locating the boat this season.

Another vote for the creeking though, missed it a lot in last few years and determined to do a bit of mud wallowing this year, Pyefleet Creek, Walton Backwaters and the Roach are on the list.
 
Oostende voor Anker is the last weekend in May. Because the Sunday is 31st May, our BH falls on the previous weekend.

Had hoped to do Oostende and a tootle down the French coast. Even SWMBO has threatened to come if I can find some competent crew. Haven't decided how to play that yet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So are we going to have a North Kent Raid? Harty Ferry, round the back of Sheppey down to Chatham and back via Sheerness? I'm game but it's probably a long weekend for those on the Orwell.

Assuming I have Sirenia ready I am thinking of a reverse of the 2007 Ostend trip.
Ramsgate, maybe Calais, Dunkerque, Ostend and home.

Then 2 weeks in the summer around the Thames and up into London.

Just got to get all the jobs done!
 
Well as people are starting to make plans for the next season I've put the link to the calender back in my signature, anyone wants to use it just shout for the password. Looks like some already have as I see the Ostend weekend is already there. Anything else happening, anywhere, anyone ?
If so, it might help others to stick it on there

Wish I could claim to have plans, but I don't. Was planning to do Holland for the first time but am not enthusiastic about the Euro/GBP exhange rate, so am wavering on that one.

So might take a week or two trying to visit places I haven't managed to get to before, anywhere south of the Crouch, perhaps.....

....or I could take one week going South of the Orwell and back, and a separate, additional week going North and back ...

....or I could go back to Burnham to defend the trophy ( /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) or not .....

... or I could have a go at Ramsgate ....

as you can tell, no idea really.

First time ever we are venturing down to the Solent to "do" the Round Island race (Isle of Wight that is!) Race is June 20th. Only over 1800 starters last year so it should be an experience. Have any readers ever participated? Maybe you have some advice for a novice at this event? Any one else planning to do the same so we could Cruise in Company down there and possibly back

Once in a lifetime - never again kind of experience.
About as much fun as racing on the M25 at rush hour.
Had I been on my own boat, I would have had several heart attacks.
 
Did this last year, was the very last boat to start the entire race (due to *uckwit (me)skipper cooking bacon rolls instead of getting to start line /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Actually the this supreme bit of tactical loitering meant we missed the melee at the start lineby 30 minutes!!! and eventually overtook somewhere in the region of 500 boats finishing in 8 1/2 hours. We caught up with the other Sadler 290 that started on time and finished in a very busy scramble of short tacking for the finish line. Superb sail, brilliant conditions.
So my advice would be - turn up late, avoid absolutely everyone, and work the tides /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Had an equally exciting singlehanded sail back leaving Eastbourne at 0530 and arriving at Shotley at 2130
Stop at Dover on the way as it breaks up the passage a bit more for that godawful boring bit from Dungeness to Brighton.
For the night before the race book a berth at Ocean Quay Marina on the Itchen near Shamrock Quay(not Ocean Quay Village) this is cheaper and a lot quieter than Cowes.
Leave the marina for the start line earlier than me if you want to start on time!!!

Have done the RTIR twice- once on a bav 36 charter boat and then 2 years ago on my own 37footer. Fantastic days/ weekends both times. On my own boat the start was very nerve wracking as my crew consisted of several dinghy racing mates so we were full on for the pin-end of the line like every other of the 200+ boats in our start !
My advice would be take some experienced crew. Try to have a practise day on the Friday especially if you are planning to use the kite.On the beat down the solent have somebody at the bow calling the boats that might be an issue. Have a permanent crew on the mainsheet ready to ease if you need to dip behind another boat. Most boats are sensible about colregs but bear in mind there are an awful lot of sailors in the race who only race once a year- so be ready to take avoiding action even if you are on stardboard tack/ windward boat etc,..Dont worry too much about where you finish it is a great day out and the beers afterwards taste superb and the atmosphere in Cowes is excellent.
I am going to do it again this year- again imn my boat!
 
If the weather's half decent, a longish trip somewhere, to test Sestina before the big trip next year. Possibly west coast of Sweden as I've got a chart pack, acquired from a previous boat.

If the weather's pants. then it's sort out the camping kit. get the Disco serviced and head a long way south and east. I fancy going to Albania, reputedly very unspoilt.
