It is one of those parts you take for granted until you need one then realise you have no idea what it is called!

Can someone please tell me the name of the white plastic round hole cover/plug things in this picture.

Thanks

Look inside the boat and you will see hoses attached to them. could be bilge pump outlets or vents for tanks etc. Likely to be pretty obvious what they are for.

Mostly in Europe people call them "skin fittings". Sometimes they are called "thru hulls" too. Never "grommets". Type "skin fitting" into google and you'll see loads of them

Ah yes, a grommet is different to that. Thanks :)

Are you feeling a bit grumpy today? (That was a terse answer to Tranona (or am I unaware that you have one of those relationships?)

Nope (to the first Q). OP asked "What are these called"". That is, he wanted to know the name of them. I guess so he could google them. Tranona basically said "look at the piping behind them and you'll then be able to work out what they are for". If ever there were an occasion when the response "RTFQ" (with a smiley) were apt, this was it.

Are we sure that Tranona wasn't replying to Tender Aft's slightly bizarre post? As a response to "I always wondered whether they had a special name and function on boats", Tranona's response seems to make sense.

Not that he's usually one for psychic-quoting, that tends to be non-regulars.

A good, civil response. I had to ask though (as it seemed strong to me).

(BTW, I had a tooth out yesterday so I am a bit grumpy....and the drugs don't work)

True - Don't forget I am learning. Bizarre questions come out of the mouths of babes (and idiots) and sometimes they can be sensible.

useless information of the day:
for unknown reasons in Greece they call them "injection" (not the Greek word for this, just plain english...)
