What an incredible picture.............

Re: What an incredible picture-not really just bleedin typical

OK, I appreciate the levity, but… err…
Wow! The word ‘dangerous’?! That’s an interesting word amongst seafarers! Most boats are dangerous in the wrong hands!
And some vessels are purposely designed to operate in really poor conditions, and don’t have keels…
Plus, in the boating world, ballast-keels aren’t the only way to achieve self-righting (eg. sealed deck-houses, water-transfer tanks, etc).
And in the sailing world, some keels fall off…
But I agree – she didn’t survive that fall did she! Poor thing!

Re: What an incredible picture-not really just bleedin typical

What further evidence is needed?

As can be seen from this picture taken after Hurricane Andrew

Sailing yachts having a proper keel are very much more seaworthy than motorboats.

What was Said !!

On another point entirely what do we think the Crane Drivers / Riggers words were as he / she saw it start to go. Entries please!!

But also: One can't really make out in second picture whether 'P' Brackets have been ripped off, I imagine as it went in nose first that both slings have exited past the back end so ripping off sterngear very probable. Therefore surely she is filling up with water as there are two pretty big holes below the surface as their would be if the keel was ripped off a sail boat?

Perhaps sling simply split, I don't know, but I don't see a line between slings in first shot so imagine they just slipped, tipping her up and away she went??

Ok I appreciate the levity but this what is dangerous about ALL power boats - no keel!! ..... ban all boats without a keel I say....

Er... I have to dissagree and think that the yachty things with keels are a hell of a lot more dangerous that Mobo's in general (see another post) they are just simply dangerous on the rivers full stop ...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: What an incredible picture-not really just bleedin typical

That's just what I thought when I saw the pics when they were posted a while ago - she must have been a bit of a slammer... (although the angle of the photo may be deceptive. And I first just assumed the nose-dive pic was a photoshop-job!).

Planty: crane driver's words? "Oh Crikey"
