Did any one else see that pillock in the Fairline Corniche going through Chi Harbour yesterday at planing speed, at about 9:45am?

We were anchored alone, having overnighted, just south of the yellow East Head Buoy, a little distance away from the main anchorage.

This Corniche approached from the Itchenor direction at approx 20 knots, passing us with a gap of about 40 feet. Stuff went flying everywhere, and all as Mrs Q was slaving over a hot stove. Ba<span style="color:black">stard. I couldn’t see the name of the boat.

He then slowed a little and went through the main anchorage, and then left the harbour. Did anyone get his name?

Now I understand why raggies get upset.

He gets 10/10 for the most stupid piece of motorboating I have seen in the harbour.

I hear someone recently got a £6000 fine for speeding in the harbour. This bloke deserves one aswell.

There is a charter company that operates from the harbour which has a fairline corniche maybe it was him showing off to clients, though a bit early at that time, maybe he thought as it was early he could get away with it.

No reason to speed though as it was pretty foggy up the Itchen at that time.

I don't know what a Fairline Corniche looks like but I wonder if you are talking about he who charged through the moorings in Thorney Channel around that time on Sunday. He came from the direction of Northney Marina.

Complete bounder. Caused some distress to madam, who was engaged in ironing my morning paper at the time.

Wasn't too foggy at that point. Mind you, it was on Saturday night. It was our first night at anchor in a pea-souper. Couldn't see or hear a thing. Bit eerie.

Maybe he thought that being as there weren't any limit signs in red circles, and that the street lamps were more than 100 yards apart, that motorway regulations must apply? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The Americans have a good word to describe this sort of thing - "Jerk"

Thorney channel .... Northney marina ??? Different parts of the harbour !

Ah yes. Wondered who'd spot that! Not much gets past VicS.

I meant, of course [?], Thornham Marina.

Apologies to all motor boaters who left Northney Marina on Sunday morning. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Ah Thornham marina.

Here you mean

No wonder everyone's p'd off, if they were battering thro a moorings like that. It is a sure way to annoy people & lose friends. And, yes I am referring to the original boat, not the example in the picture.

Awesome!

However, "all things are relative". My first ship, a Colony Class Cruiser could do about 32 knots and we were once overtaken by HMS Manxman, a fast minelayer, and she was doing over 40.

I had no idea there was a marina up there. Just been looking at the charts and it all looks mighty shallow.

it all looks mighty shallow

[/ QUOTE ] It is exceeding shallow and the Prinsted channel above the junction with Nutbourne channel is poorly marked . The banks you see on the right of the photo and the wooden stakes that project from them are a trap for the unwary.
Once within Prinsted bay the only marks are those put out by the users of Paynes boatyard and more recently by Thornham marina. Since the two sets are not co-ordinated local knowledge is vital.
I would not recommended anyone to venture up the Prinsted channel. A number of the moorings are high on the mud outside the channel.

You would not want to inspect your antifouling up there either. You would never extract yourself from the mud. In fact a few years ago a boy was drowned after becoming trapped in the mud somewhere around Thornham marina

Not entirely relevant, but I took my two young lads for a walk from the Life Boat Station around the point passed the 8knt limit marker at the entrance to the harbour on Saturday. We hadnt enough time to bother taking out the boat, and it was a cracking evening, they ended up swimming the fools..............................(Sorry I digress), whilst I stood there I was amazed at the speed a LOT of mobo's came in at, no regard for the speed limit at all, one a Targa 34 was fully planing at least 300 way past the marker, loads were going too fast!!!

The only one who slowed down in time was 'Our Dave' in his S-28, he like 'me' came twattin down from the West Pole and stopped it right by the 8knt marker! Nice to watch Dave.

On Sunday I ventured out, and was frankly amazed by the arrogance of some WAFI's, yelling slow down as we approached the second marker heading out, I simply replied 'WHY', and opened her up!!!

This wasn't for just 300 yards. This is all the way through the harbour. There had been people swimming in the anchorage on Saturday afternoon when we arrived, and were on Sunday morning. Not sure if there was when he went through, but the potential carnage doesn't bear thinking about.

BTW the Targa 34 wasn't me!

Anyway, after he'd been through and pissed us off, a tasty machine called "White Lightning" turned up. What a beast. What a magnificent noise (sweet V8s). Anyone know anything about her?

Interesting that you mention the marking of the channel in Prinsted Bay. I looked at two sources yesterday evening and the buoyage shown was completely different:
