Erm ... looking at the photo I can't see any channel markers so I guess they are in mid solent - in which case the saily vessel is stand-on ... if the captain anticipated the problem why didn't he alter course/speed ?
However, X-boats are renowned for their stubbornness and tend to standon regardless ...
actually.... yep in some respects.... don't see what his commercial or otherwise status has to do with it...... the rules are the rules.... if he saw the situation developing as far in advance as suggested by the article, he should have stuck a few degrees of port on, and avoided the situation to start with.....
