it would have been on Saturday.
We anchored in our favourite quiet creek but were joined by a raft up of 3 boats about 200 metres away.
They decided that we all needed to share their "Disco Hits of The 80s" music at high volume, and then have a shouted conversation over the top of it.
The main topic of conversation seemed to be about a "far cough" or "far cough you can't".
The next morning one of the more strident females asked, "why aint there no bleeding seals here any more?"

Essex

It wasn't Mr FC's favourite creek, was it?

Last time we were there (probably the week after Easter) there were 17 seals, and they were not at all bothered by us anchoring right by them. Let's hope the Essex yobs have decided it's too quiet for them, and gone somewhere else.

Ah, so was that you on board, giving it some of your disco grooves then Jim?

Not guilty Dan. I was holed up in Bridgemarsh all weekend preparing the boat for Ostend trip next Thursday.
But we did a bit of Honking & Hooting aboard Artemis at Fambridge on Saturday night.

Well i'm not privy to the 'In' creek location but i'd be surpised if people on here knowing would change it's social demoographic.

If you see it on land, you'll see it on water.

Sorry, I hadn't meant to imply an exclusive club. It was Yokesfleet, AKA The Hole.

That's ok. It was P.B (Pre-Breakfast) with my reply. :)

I do think that water is a reflection of what goes on, on land and in some ways is worse (or better) as there rarely is anyone around to lay down the law when they cross the line.

Maybe a few 'quiet' boats should get back down there and re-stake their claim. :)

And then "they" argue that getting more people on the water is a good thing :confused::confused:

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.

We've found that in general, boaty people are better behaved than most landlubbers. We find that people in the marina and out on the water seem very civil, usually say "hello" as they pass on the pontoon or give us a wave when we weave around the raggies at sea :)

Obvious exceptions, as this thread proves. Like the raggie we passed at 16 knots coming back into Felixstowe Sunday. I put my hand up and he looked the other way and sent SWMBO on deck to hold the saily boom thingy from flailing around in our wash. Obviously failed to realise that at 16 knots we don't make any wash, unlike we would have at 8 knots :D

Or maybe had you have given him a decent amount of searoom, the issue would never have arisen? Not everyone 'enjoys' motor boats passing flat out 50 yards away!!

Sorry Paul...not inferring anything of your goodself, just a generic observation about the majority of Mobo drivers!!

I assume that you had allowed a decent degree of searoom then??!!

Well the first reply clearly assumes that i hadn't given him enough room :D

I actually gave him plenty of room, so much so that i was navigating in 9 feet of water, well clear of the main channel and the recommended yacht track. Having previously recorded a route on the plotter that gives me max distance from the yotties that are unable to distinguish where in the harbour they should be sailing. Sunday was a busy day and there where yachts coming in, going out and crossing the harbour. Having a route across the shallower part of the harbour tends to allow passage in the less busy stretch of water, where the nasty ole sailboats dare not venture :)

In actual fact i was some 300 yds from him as we passed, hence the reason for my comment. I found it somewhat amusing that he appeared unhappy that i was overtaking him, albeit 300 yds away, making no wash. Fortunately, i've found that in general, the sailboats we meet on our travels adopt a more civil approach to us, even if we are in a nasty mobo :)

That's perfectly OK. I would agree that in all the Marinas i've been in, the majority of folk have been very friendly.

My balancing point is that at the weekend (usually hot ones like the one just gone), the number of power boats, speed boats and PWC's that just blast around other boats, without any consideration, is surprising.

I have to be honest too, when I did a weeks sailing course on the south coast (between Poole and the Solent), the number of snotty 'holier than thou' boat owners of all types was a bit disappointing. Perhaps that tarnished my opinion a bit.
