Arrived and stayed for a week, it's a cracking harbour very picturesque with bigish fishing fleet so plenty going on. The town has the best dog friendly eatery we've come across - Nautico Lounge - and some good food shops but also it's fair share of tattoo parlours and pound shops.

Yes there's some rafting, the maximum has been four on a raft but everyone does shore lines and most times it's been just one or two boats. The pontoons are wide and safe and the leccy and water stations are about 10m apart, berth for 10m is £26 vs £40 at Poole Town Quay Marina

The beach is incredible, we'll be back here.

Last there in 2014 and loved it. We're heading to Dartmouth & Salcombe in a couple of weeks and a couple of days in Weymouth are 100% on the agenda. Are they still doing do the deal of buy ( I think) 2 get 1 night free??

I'm hoping to get there for the first time in 2 weeks, part of my much reduced in scope summer cruise - just to clarify - the cheaper option was the town quay before the bridge?

Salcombe has a pay for 5 nights and get another 2 free. No deals in Dartmouth that I'm aware of.

Abiding memory of Weymouth is of the barmaid who carefully searched the till when asked if she had any Scottish £3 coins.

Yes £2.60 per metre, £2.50 for leccy. Marina is £3.10 all in but the harbour has much charm and character, though on Saturday night a bit to much 'character'. Must have always been like this - 200 years ago there would have been much more noise, many more drunks and some very unsavoury characters. Nice folk at the HM office and the fooderies on the North side are great.

We called in there in April - really nice harbour, very picturesque.

We've always enjoyed Weymouth. We once managed to stay during their mad battle between the fishing boats, which involved a lot of flour being chucked around, with great care taken not to involve the visiting yachts. Eating out at Floods has always been good, though we've not been for a few years now as they were booked up last time.

We love it too and kept our boat there for a couple of years 5 years ago when I was working at Dorchester.

Still visit 2 or 3 times a year to eat at Mallams which is my favourite restaurant - on the harbourside opposite Floods. Steep annual marina prices but good and friendly service and a great place for a day sail or kick off to the West Country or Solent. We probably stay over every other New Years Eve as the whole town and more celebrate in fancy dress on the beach with fireworks.

Weymouth is the place that successfully recreates memories of my earliest sailing experiences rafted up on Poole Town Quay with another 30 yachts in the 1980's.

My only problem with Weymouth is due to association, too often it is where weather blocks further cruising progress.

One of my favourite places too but I tend to treat it as a long weekend trip from Portsmouth. If going further west it's too far out of the way - I tend to go straight past about 5 miles south of Portland.

Really great place. It's a great weekend sail from the Solent area for those looking to expand their horizons. Navigation considerations and options on the way make this interesting. St albans head Inshore/offshore, the ranges, a tidal gate ... it's a nice passage with poole as your get out of jail free card en route. Loved the town, fish and chips, bar ...etc We moored on the town quay rafted 4 out with really very pleasant neighbours all around.

We night sailed back to Southampton a few weeks back and took the long way around the island just because it was such a nice night; loved it and will be going back soon.

It's a cracking place, very much miss working on the quay there.

Other CG stations had better views (and parking), but there was something about being in the heart of the community that really worked.

Weymouth is fantastic :) Great little town, real character and brilliant for yachties / boaty types.

I am moving there next week, anyone passing through please get in touch!

Portland marina is excellent too, facilities are great and the food, bar, live bands etc are doing well, there's a good night out to be had there

Picture of the marina from the top of Portland that I took the other day:

Remember rafting in the Cove back in '98, we were the sixth boat out. Went ashore for a couple of hours, came back and we were in the middle of the raft. six more rafted onto us ! All great fun.

Plus 1 for Portland as a change from Weymouth and friendly staff and good facilities . It seems rather under used though which is as a shame but maybe it's because the locality is somewhat limited unless walks attract.
