Yes you will, it will probably come in the form of a separate bill from the shipping company (Fedex or whoever). Check first that the warranty is a worldwide one too.

yep - almost certainly you will get a call from the shipper asking for cash. Its do-able by card over the phone so doesn't slow the process. But given the exhange rate and cost differential its almost certainly significantly cheaper overall.

The duty will vary depending on what you buy I think, VAT obviously is 17.5% and goes on the lot, including the duty and the carriage. West used to quote at one time duty paid UK prices, maybe they can tell you what the duty is, they are very helpful on their toll free number. 0800 895473 from 13.00 to 03.00 GMT.

Re: Duty & VAT

Charles you may have answered an unasked question! I take it then that you can buy an EPIRB from the USA and register it here? We are shortly off to the USA and I had thought one might fall into my suitcase.

Robin.

Re: Duty & VAT

a friend of mine has just ordered an epirb from the states - he had to have an mmsi number beforehand before they'd ship it.
I on the otherhand bought one in Island Waterworld in St Martin in the carribean when we were over there 18 months back - they couldnt care less about the details - we actually registered it via the US coastguard website and at the time didnt have an MMSI.

Re: Duty & VAT

Re Epirb from West marine I have just looked at site and it has the following rider for Epirbs.

<This item is a shipping hazard and can only ship via ground delivery. Additional hazard shipping costs may apply. The hazard charge (if any) will appear during checkout when you verify the ship-to address. Hazardous items cannot ship outside the US.>

Can anyone explain the Categories I and II?
