Anyone got any experience or own one of these boats? I would like to now the pro's and con's of what seems to be a nice yacht for coastal sailing and longer periods aboard.
Thanks to all who answer.

One of the chaps in the club has owned one for over 20 years, has cruised extensivley Holland, Germany, etc mostly single handed, we followed him back from Burnham on the bank holiday, we chickened out and had just the main up averaging 6 kts, he on the other hand was under nearly full sail and got a max speed of 9.5 kts through the water......that was with upto 35kts up the chuffer!
I was suprised at how beamy she is for the length and a very good sized cockpit,

There is a one page Konsort review in the May issue of Sailing Today.

A friend of mine is looking for one as it seems to tick all the boxes he wants. Difficult to find, the demand is strong.

If you are a 6+ footer, check berth lengths because these are are often marginal in older designs and the Duo fits a lot in 29ft.

I think life inside could be stuffy in hotter weather aboard with just a single back door and all that glazing. Contrast with the LM 30.

Final thought is where do you relax for a couple of hours in the evening? A tight dinette would not work for me but I suppose you could make use of the cockpit + canvas conservatory.

How does it work if the VAT has not been payed ie. yacht purchased in the Channel Islands and then moved to Germany?

I beleive the vat is paid to the country where the boat will be registered, i.e germany.
However there are many more here that know all about vat and sure they will correct me.

Take no notice of negative posters.

The Westerly Consort Duo is a lovely little boat.

It tears along with a bone in its teeth and a tail in its wake and then, when the tide falls, it sits on its bottom on the mud, ready to get going again in the flood.:D

I wish I could do that with my Dreadnought...

Some year's ago a group of us used to have some fun, racing of sorts if you like to various places.

One of the boat's was a Duo . Have to say that it sailed very well. Even to windward, and it was a bilge keeler too. Could be that the owner knew what he was doing unlike the rest of us.

Personally I like them. Never did go down below though.

More like difficult to find because very few people wanted to buy them from new.
But the number of sailing yachts around retro fitted with a bolt-on diy hardtop wheel house indicates many should have purchased a Westerly Duo, or LM 30 or HR 94.

Blimmin' ugly boats, IMHO.

Nah! They are not ugly boats at all. They are not fronzy, if that is what you mean. But they are sturdy little perishers. There is one in the Azores, comes to Gib to visit regularly....

The owner raids the supermarkets of all the Fray Bentos pies he can get his hands on, and sails off, then comes back all the way when he eats them all...:D

Rowing out to the mooring years ago with an eight year old in the dinghy. He was struggling to read the fancy script on the side of the wheelhouse but enventually he announced "Westerley Consort Dud!". Never been on one but that sealed their fate for me.
Looked at a standard Consort once and that was like a barn down below.
