Hi, we sailed in the Blackwater on Thursday and planned to stay overnight at W Mersea. We'd never been there before so wanted to get a mooring and then go ashore for a look around and dinner. When we were inside the Nass Beacon I tried calling YC1 on the vhf and also mobile phone, but to no avail. It was about 6p.m. Had I called too late and he'd finished for the night? Couldn't find any reference to the operating hours ...

We don't actually quote the YC1 times - we'll add them if it turns out they are fixed. Note that there is an alternative taxi, the 'Lady Grace' who will turn out in the evening on request if available.

West Mersea Yacht Club launch YC1 runs 8.30 to 5.30 weekdays, 8.30 to 6.30 Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, 1st May to 30th September, finishing earlier at 5.00 weekdays March, April and October.

Stacey Belbin's privately operated 'Lady Grace' launch may be available later or earlier but you may need to pre book. Contact her on 07791 859624

I understand the YC1 will operate later if there are enough boats wanting to return back to their boats after the usual time. But has to be organised in advance - info from the Yacht Club.

A few years ago we had a rally and at the time the YC did not offer a later launch, we got a quote from Lady Grace and the cost was very high at £10 per boat, quite a few of our boats were single handed, so no sharing cost and had 7 boats in total - £70 for a one way trip. We made other plans.

Are you sure that is right? The website quotes "The 'Lady Grace' can be hired for just £30 per hour"

Stacey ("Lady Grace") will ferry/taxi for £3 per person in her normal working day. She also does private hire/wildlife/party/sightseeing/photography trips....these are obviously priced accordingly, as will one off late night trips. Best to phone and ask?

Maybe things have changed, I was refering to a visit 2 years ago. After that the YC said they would run YC1 later if the demand was there. It was a late evening ferry enquiry

I might be wrong but I would have thought that Stacey would have bean quoting for a return trip as you would have had to get back to your boats afterwards and as the whole operation was after hours and she would be waiting for you to return you to your boats
