We're off for a little jolly around the Island in June - on our bikes

Re: We're off for a little jolly around the Island in JULY - on our bikes

If you look at a satellite view of the harbour on google, you'll see a kind of spit where the western end of the breakwater meets the beach, directly opposite the boatyard. This is where the BBQ area is. You'll also see that the pontoon in the NW corner of the harbour has a walk ashore onto this spit. To walk to it from the harbour office though, you'd have to go across the bridge and carry on along the road until you can double back along the beach, about half a mile, maybe more.

From memory there's a handful of permanent BBQ's, so you just need to take charcoal and food.

just dinghy it. we often go to Yarmouth beach. landing pontoon just by BBQ area, walking its a bit of a treak!

For those that don't know.. here is when the BBQ area is, and shows where you can take your dinghy to. If you don't do dinghys then the Yarmouth water taxi will also drop you and pick you up from there.

Just seen your new avatar Colin. Are you allowed to have a motorbike as a sailist :)

Good luck to everyone. Sorry I can't be with you, would have enjoyed being there & have done most of the ride before. Well the bit from Yarmouth to Freshwater.

Henry :)

1 week to go and we are happy for anyone to join us, cycling or for the Saturday beer and natter at Yarmouth. Our "rally" has capacity for 4 more boats. All welcome.

Hi Guys, I've had a stab at creating a route https://www.strava.com/routes/9357732

64 miles with lots of coastal views and 5,300ft of climbing most of which is in the first 30 miles hence having 2 stops in that distance.

Stops options at:
20 miles: Niton, The Buddle Inn (after the 1st big climb)
30 miles: Beach Garden Cafe Sandown (after the 2nd big climb)
40 miles: The Old Fort Seaview (because it looks great)
50 miles: somewhere in Cowes
64 miles: Yarmouth for a well earned pint or 3

Re: We're off for a little jolly around the Island in JULY - on our bikes

Weather at the moment looks pretty settled, might rain a bit, might have a bit of sun, no strong winds or anything drastic. Just a normal July day really.

Yep, looking very benign in the morning, blowing up later in the day. All Westerly's. Should be carnage round the Needles with 1500 yachts :D

We have another cyclist confirmed, but plenty of room for cyclists and boats if anyone wondering what to do this weekend.

From what I saw earlier I am expecting a bit of a lumpy cruise over from Poole on Saturday. :)

Loaded to the Garmin Gary.

Good stuff Paul, I'll give it the once over again now to make sure there are no silly mistakes.. not been unheard of for Garmin to take a cyclist on an unintended adventure... worse case is, "we keep turning left" ;)

Re: We're off for a little jolly around the Island in JULY - on our bikes

btw, the buddle is the southerly most pub on the island so should be good to pop our nose in that one but just checked and it doesn't open until 12pm so won't be an option unless we set off later.. I'll look for other options in and around Niton
