We're off for a little jolly around the Island in June - on our bikes

Re: We're off for a little jolly around the Island in JULY - on our bikes

Hi Guys, surfaced from the Festival (stayed in Island Harbour, lots of fun).. I'll double check if Roy is still able to help and will check a couple of other boat owners to see if they fancy joining us.

All the best Gary

This is a cross between a forum Beer and Natter on Sat 1 July, and a bad idea to cycle round the island, while the Raggies sail it. All welcome to join in, however you would like to get involved. It will be great to meet up, as it will be my first Solent Beer and Natter. We have a "Rally" booked into Yarmouth, for up to 10 boats, and I need to firm up with the harbour. So this is a tally of the boats I think are involved, 6 so far:- If I have missed any of you, many apologies. All boats pay their own fees direct to the harbour, and the Rally gives us a 10% discount.

Superheat6 Boadicea Saturday 1st
Firefly 625 Tulana Sat 1st
Flowerpower Flowerpower Sat 1st
Wipe_out Safari 11 Saturday 1st
oGaryo Bizzie Bee Friday 30/Sat 1st Cycling
Rafiki Rafiki Friday 30/Sat 1st Cycling

Colhel Supporting the drinking
Spottydog Supporting the cycle ride

So, if I have forgotten any of you, I apologise, please feel free to harang me over a beer, but lets get your names on the list please?
Swift update see above. We have capacity for a few more boats on the "rally" at Yarmouth, for the Beer and Natter. All welcome.

Is there a bbq area at Yarmouth?

Yep, on the W side of the harbour, but it's quite a long walk round over the bridge, about half a mile. You can dinghy over to the pontoon in the NW corner though.

I'm not sure where you mean Nick (half a Mile?). Anyway assuming we'll manage to navigate ourselves there, could this be an option for the evening meal? I'm thinking of a trip to Lidl (or Waitrose if going posh) and dividing the cost between attendees.

Col, sounds like a plan. Maybe best if we all bring our own stuff, then we wont be disappointed? Saves you a bit of hassle. What do others think? Mind you, if Henry joins us, then he will bring his usual Fortnums basket :D

For those of you that dont know, Gary did a little warm up bimble on his shopper bike this weekend and has now decided that as he is clearly quite good at this cycling thing, he is going to go round the island twice whilst the rest of you go once and settle down for a nice feed up and banter!

I on the other hand will be thinking of you all whilst sat with my toes in the pool somewhere warm and drinking something cold...

Maybe you've heard about my barbecuing skills then?,... Good food, badly cooked, served cold :ambivalence:

Not at all. I'd heard you were next up for Masterchef. I'm struggling with walking half a mile after the bike ride

If you look at a satellite view of the harbour on google, you'll see a kind of spit where the western end of the breakwater meets the beach, directly opposite the boatyard. This is where the BBQ area is. You'll also see that the pontoon in the NW corner of the harbour has a walk ashore onto this spit. To walk to it from the harbour office though, you'd have to go across the bridge and carry on along the road until you can double back along the beach, about half a mile, maybe more.

From memory there's a handful of permanent BBQ's, so you just need to take charcoal and food.
