We're in a quandary

Re: We\'re in a quandary

Strangely, it made no difference, perhaps half a knot!

Which backs up your theory, of course.

Re: We\'re in a quandary

Just stopped laughing!

I have been brought up on talk like this since the tender age of eight, have heard over the years of RLMs that could do 14knots blah blah.

There will always be someone that reckons their boat is faster than it is.

According to the specs mine will do 19K, but I tell that is bollox too, have had 14K on the GPS but if I ran it at that it would need my spanners out pretty quick so I run at 10K.

All I can say "Big Boy", is go to Rochester with the club at Whitsun and Lets see what you got!!!!

Only way you will do 8K with a single 4108 is with a tow rope at the front!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: We\'re in a quandary

I didn't say it would do 8 now, did I?

I was simply quoting the boat report figures, and invited you to take it up with them /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: We\'re in a quandary

Did it cross your mind that maybe the boat report was quoting figures for a twin?

A single engine boat will do 2/3 to 3/4 of what a twin setup will do.

(This is based on the 4 twin engined boats I have owned)

Why would I take it up with them? You own the boat, you will be the one disappointed when it doesnt do what you expected.

Just to close the thread, please read this report from ex commodore of Weybridge Mariners that took his single engine Broom 30 to Paris and back.
http://www.weybridgemariners.co.uk/cruise_to_paris.htm

Fastest he seemed to go was 6Knots

The boat will take you places but it may just take a little longer than you expected.

Re: We\'re in a quandary

I expect it to do 5. Having given the old girl a punt up and down the Bray stretch, she does this effortlessly.

I have the reserve of a Nanni wing engine should the flow overwhelm the Perkins /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

At 1½ x square Root of hull length you need a 36 footer to get up to 9 knots in a displacement hull.

I don't think physics or facts are relavent in this discussion /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: We\'re in a quandary

I was worried that No Regrets might splash out on a 500hp Yanmar and still not get his 9 knots! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: We\'re in a quandary

See what you started?

Bloody troublemaker /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Seriously though, why not get the old engine checked, and chuck an outboard on the back for emergencies?

My P33 was alleged to do 17/18 knots on 260 hp and actually it did once wallowing down a big wave going with the tide.
More usually it struggles up to 14/15 and the racket/vibration ensures you do not stay there for very long. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
